Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360) Reviews
In Battlefield: Bad Company, no one is safe. Not a sniper hiding inside a tower. Not a soldier driving a massive tank. And definitely not you, as you bob and weave across a fiery sandbox of destruction. If you thought the action of the Battlefield franchise was intense before, you haven't seen anything yet. Thanks to a fleshed-out single-player campaign, Battlefield's trademark multiplayer action, and a new level of destructibility, Bad Company is quite simply one of the most fun shooters released this year.

June 25th, 2008, 12:40 PM #2It’s not like Battlefield: Bad Company is everything to everyone. It’s not the best first person shooter you’ll ever play; there’s basically only one mode to multiplayer, its got some really corny writing, the color palette is sort of bland, etc., etc. But I’ll be damned if it isn’t one of the best games I’ve played this year. Focused, concise and pure in its delivery of big explosions and exciting action, Bad Company is a gem of good game design and the best Battlefield game I’ve played since the original.

June 25th, 2008, 12:40 PM #3The rules of first-person shooters are changing. Videogames that engage the player in acts of war have always promised one thing; cover. During times of extreme duress the player has always had the option of retreating behind a wall or group of immovable sandbags in order to escape their assailants. Battlefield: Bad Company, the latest from the Sweden-based Digital Illusions CE (DICE), changes all that.

June 25th, 2008, 12:41 PM #4Gears of War's cover and concealment and BioShock's Plasmid abilities are concepts around which developers designed whole games. Concepts, not gimmicks, because gimmick connotes cheapness, because gimmick implies a ruse or last resort, as in the game isn't good enough on its own and needs something extra to sell it. Neither of the features named above fits that bill. You can't grouse about Plasmids apart from BioShock's other qualities since both the first-person shooter's enemies and frozen or flooded environments thoroughly tie into the player's fire and electric powers. Battlefield: Bad Company's destructible buildings, trees, terrain, and bridges ought to amount to something of similar magnitude.
