| EA combines BioWare and Mythic into new RPG/MMO group
From Ars Technica: Quote:
Electronic Arts has formed a new RPG and MMO supergroup, which will consist of both Mythic Entertainment and BioWare.
...
Mythic is best known for its work in the MMO field, including its most recent success, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. BioWare, meanwhile, has been behind role-playing hits such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. The studio currently has three big projects in the works: Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
It's still unclear what affect this move will have on the output of either studio, or if it will impact any games which are currently in development. The only immediately obvious change is that Mythic is now under the control of Bioware, creating something of an RPG/MMO super-power within EA. This is certainly quite the development, although this isn't the only big news from the business of gaming to be announced today. | Seriously big day with all the changes ... Again, I can only imagine the powerhouse studios being formed with these changes! |

oooooohhhhh, that is interesting Bethesda Softworks parent ZeniMax Media buys id Software - Ars Technica
more so than the original post you quoted, IMO anyways...
imagine an Oblivion/Fallout 3 game engine with an Id engine, or some combination?
or some kind of melding of the two companies products/product lines?
I just hope in the new EA merger thing between Mythic and Bioware, the new Star Wars MMOG doesn't get pushed back, ruined or shit canned. (actually any of the games their making right now, Bioware), I have yet to play Mass Effect, but hopefully will pick it up cheap some time soon.
but the Id Software purchase is especially interesting.
also had to laugh at this comment: Quote: |
While this news is surprising, both companies have sterling reputations in the gaming world, and if id had to be acquired, there were much worse places for it to go—no, we won't name names... We'll continue to follow this story and update with any new details as they emerge.
| LOL, no names, huh? I suspect EA was on or near the top of that list of other worse places to go, you can only imagine the hack job they'd do to Id...

I'm not trusting Mythic ever, not after what they did to Warhammer: age of wreckoning.
It originally had a great idea, great design and potential, but Mythic Never fixed any of the problems, they ruined alot of the classes and made the game into nothing more then a grindfest.
On another note i did read a while back that THQ was going to make an MMORPG based on Warhammer: 40,000. If this is true then i'll be extremely happy.
For years i've wanted a futuristic MMO, i'm tired of swords and magic crap.
Necrons FTW!!! |

I lost my faith in Quality games from EA back in the days after they released BF2, from that point on, it was all down hill from there.
the only hope they have is the few studios under their wings that they haven't really gotten their noses into and picked and chose what the games would have and be able to provide to consumers...
this is why I hope and Pray they don't mess with Biowares currently in development games, anything after these games, fine, screw up to their hearts content, but leave the current development games alone (crosses fingers and prays for the best till their released, hopefully not the usual Bug ridden crap EA's been releasing lately, and not bothering to invest much into fixing said problems) |

Qualilty? | Waste of my time and money, should have never given EA a second chance.
Although i thought they did good on Crysis, the first one, second one was way too short and was more of a performance test then an actual game. |
