EA may resurrect older IP: new Road Rash, Populous incoming?

    From Ars Technica:

While it's not set in stone, some recent trademark filings hint at a strong possibility that EA might be bringing some of its popular games back into the light after spending years collecting dust.

Road Rash... can live with out, Populous on the Other hand, THAT would be a good one to come out with. Many Many Many hours wasted on that game on my old SNES. I remember one time a 4 day stint playing that, with only about 12 hours of sleep, Mountain Dew and Chips and Licorice to sustain me through it LOL. the only other times I spent so much on a game was Final Fantasy II, Secret Of Mana and Chronotrigger.

oooooh, read more on that, Wing Commander... FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!

not as many sleepless hours in game time, but on the SNES, it was the game that I spent the most time playing aside from Top Gear 2.

wasn't until years later we got it for our old 386 PC...

would love to see a new version of that come out, Nothing changed aside from Graphics/eye candy, and maybe some quality live action scenes thrown in, in placement for the static/animated interactions of the original. remember spending a lot of time in the Simulator in the T.C.S. Tigers Claw Lounge/mess hall.

Syndicate was another fun one I remember from back then...

although as great as these old classics were, its EA releasing them or holding the IP rights... which means they'll be f*cked up with some DRM crap, and possibly released buggy as hell, and waiting a year before the most basic bugs fixed, with the critical ones barely touched of waiting another year for that to be fixed, just before a new replacement title is released.

Road Rash was *my* choice racing game. Loved beating people as i passed them or them me. Made it interesting.

Populous OMG! Seriously, AWESOME game. Simple premise and amazing execution of the game.

Syndicate. Can you say precursor to the Modern Squad RTS; Mercenaries line and Warhammer 40k Dawn of War line?! This was seriously one of the most interesting and addictive games because you had to not only use strategy and tactics to win but also your environment. Squeesh them baddies with a train!

Wing Commander was too hard for me using Keyboard and Mouse to really get into it. I only really liked Privateer but i got the same problem i did with Daggerfall, too much game and not enough push to follow the story line. YoHoYoHo, a pirates life for me.

LOL, with me it was keyboard only for WC, mouse use was too sensitive for me to use.

tried joystick, but could only afford half asses cheapy sticks from Radio Shack, and wasn't much use.

When I played Syndicate for first time it was on Atari Jaguar, still was quite fun, though only had it rented for a few days.

Was looking for a game that played similar to Shadowrun for the SNES, Syndicate "looked" like it from screenshots, and description, but, when tried, i got sort of addicted to it anyways.

never did get around to buying it, and never could find it locally back then to buy either.

the Snes version was wicked, i got to a point and couldnt proceed because i didnt know what to do. The head bomb i think it was. Now the Genesis version was equally confusing and WAY more intense for completing cause you either have to work hard through the whole game to get money and upgrades or just try to handle the difficulty.

yep, remember populous spent a fair bit of time on that one
definately remember playing Wing commander on my dads old pc back in the day

I also remember the WC series went to complete crap and was an utter waste of time.

hopefully EA doesn't do their normal half-ass on the games.
    oh wait, they're guaranteed to!

i wouldn't touch their pc games, way too buggy
at least their consoles are written for a fixed platform so less bugs

WC If re-done right I'd spring for on Console. for Syndicate or Populous, I'd hope they were re-done right for PC.

I didn't care much for WC 3, or 4 (but then again these two came out during the Big CD ROM gaming/cheap ass Live action cut scene era in games, worse than many B-movies LOL), Prophecies for some reason I liked a lot, maybe not the cut scenes, some of the story/plot was ok, but needed a lot of work, what I loved was the slightly improved graphics, some new ships and weapons, and ran pretty well on the PC (well my PC of the time), than some other space shooters of the era.

Prophecies had Luke Hammil in it too. I only own that and Privateer. When MS put on Freelancer, I was pretty jazzed. It's almost exactly Privateer with a slightly different story. I never did play it online though.

I had Wing Commander for my Activision console though. Hehe.

That's probably because 4 sucked so much. It was way too hard to play. They were stupid to try to integrate it with other things. SC2K is still the best one. SC3 is okay, but without arcologies, crap.

Some things in SC4 were nice, but the game did take a while to get used to.

Too much micromanagement in my opinion.

Freelancer was interesting. I thought the same thing only the online play basicly sucked. You start out exactly the same as when you start single player only you get server additions or restrictions placed on you.

For instance, some might start you out with double or more money to get you started and some might or might not enable PVP. It was really hard to find one single quality server without spending time going to a 1k websites to read up on the server specific rules. The game has no DRM so its horribly pirated and the quality level of the folks playing ... makes newbs in WoW look good.

I wouldnt mind seeing a resurgance of Freelancer or maybe an expansion cause its a very nice game engine and has potential.

What I want to see is a Resurrection of the FreeSpace Series, or some sort of sequel thats worthy of the first 2.

Or some newer Re-done versions of System Shock 1 & 2.
