not a big deal for me, not a big fan of smaller area shooters like this, plus most servers turn into spray and pray servers anyways.
I just installed COD4 the other day, and though the single player is kind of fun, but its not that great.
I'm more interested in larger scale shooters like Joint Operations, and the ArmA games, as well as OP Flashpoint games.
some in past years I have liked, original Ghost Recon, R6 Ravenshield, Swat 4, etc, but I've never particularly cared much for the Medal of Honor or COD games.
but it is a shame they are ditching those aspects of the game, that were so looked forward to.
it reminds me of when Bungie/MS ported Halo to PC, ditching the Online Coop Feature, that was a major let down for PC gamers as well.
my Dumb Ass Brother has the one version of CODMW2 that comes with the NVG's pre ordered, and has been telling me I need to get it for PC when I can... doubt that will happen now though LOL.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Funny how Dice says that and they have yet to release BF1943 for the PC, but its out on Console, despite the fact it was supposed to be on PC...

Developed on the PC for the PC and ported to the Consoles... and PC version gets delayed...
yet its a remake of BF1942 which debuted on the PC and has probably the largest following of players (BF1942, its expansions, BF Vietnam, BF2, its expansions, BF2142, BF Heroes vs what, Bad Company and BF2 for Console?), so the whole marketing and sales thing being more for consoles is complete BS, Dice would of been wise to release for all 3 at same time or PC first then a few weeks later consoles... granted its a cheaply priced conversion of the game with Bad Companies game engine, and not even the full 1942 game either.
but all thats been said is Fall of 2009 for PC, yet the damn consoles get the game back in July...
the dedicated server thing aside from Infinity Ward, EA/Dice are no better really with the crap they pull, the only thing they have saving their butts from being hypocrites is the Modding community and dedicated server thing that IW is eliminating.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Steam is a pile of steaming crap! It's a money making scam, lags to hell and having to run vent, xfire, and PB it's a lost cause and an unnecessary component to PC gaming... in my humblest OPINION!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Steam required and no more dedicated servers or mods - Video update - Call of Duty 6, Modern Warfare 2, Steam, Dedicated Server, Mods - PC Games Hardware
I foresee mods becoming quit popular for COD4.
Perhaps there is a grand scheme here to turn PC gaming into console gaming and when both market forces meet you can say caha ching! $$$Last edited by Taxmancometh; October 22nd, 2009 at 04:44 PM.

Steam is required because instead of the crappy/buggy Punkbuster, they are enforcing VAC. Which IMO is WAY better.
I use steam everyday and don't have a problem with it. In fact, I find it less buggy then Xfire tbh.
I'm happy IW went with VAC, but still upset we cannot have dedicated servers. Thus I'll be skipping this game.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

I agree with Karma, Punkbuster is certainly broken. I ponder if Vac is much better as I recall Voogru stating that he banned a range of ip addresses (cafes) and that this alone almost eliminated cheating on his servers in TF2.
Honestly I don't think that the news could be any more disheartening in the PC gaming world. We need a REAL push by the major players (Intel, Nvidia, Ati and Microsoft) to stamp out the complexity, high price and cheating associated with PC Gaming. Currently the PC feels doomed as a gaming platform.

October 23rd, 2009, 02:01 AM #16well, i disagree, but you're welcome to your opinion. If you don't like "money making" then GTFO of America. if you are experiencing lag it's your fault, choose a server closer to you. VAC eliminates the need for punkbuster. Vent isn't needed really because most games have in-game voice support(otherwise it runs just fine in the background). Xfire isn't needed (unless you're waiting on some other buddies to jump onto WoW so you can do a raid) because Steam has a built in friend network. It's a money making scam, lags to hell and having to run vent, xfire, and PB it's a lost cause and an unnecessary component to PC gaming... in my humblest OPINION!
Mr. Negative here, I disagree with this as well.We need a REAL push by the major players (Intel, Nvidia, Ati and Microsoft) to stamp out the complexity, high price and cheating associated with PC Gaming. Currently the PC feels doomed as a gaming platform.
If you want to take complexity out of the equation, then go get a console. Cheating will always exist.
I've been hearing various people say PC gaming is doomed since the first XBox came out. It's completely bogus. The PC enables a realm of complexity that is unrivaled by any console, and looks to be that way for a very long time. All that's really happened is we've shifted the casual gamers off onto the console market. Good riddance, I say.Good job, friend-of-friends!

Well since you seemingly are an expert on PC gaming lets pick apart the not so finer aspects of your opinions.
False. A closer server has absolutely nothing to do with lag and more to do with network characteristics of an isp and their backbone provider.
False. There will never be a single solution to rectify cheating. Vac has its issues obviously. I could point you to some heated discussions on dll hooking, memory addresses and xfire exploits to radar and tag hack in game across pb and vac enabled games. Much like PC security, PC games require a multi faceted approach to anti-cheat. I miss the days of people trying to cheat on my LASA/Pure UT99 server
Them organizations could have taught much to PB and Vac I am afraid. Quite possibly cheaters were not as dedicated back then? I find my online experience much more enjoyable disregarding cheaters. I did my time busting them, lol.
False Most Pros will always have in game voice turned off and collaborating strategy amongst themselves to map how the sheep huddle. Besides that who really wants to listen to some jobless loser jerk who put in 55 hours last week in Cod describe how he is going to go and get drunk or high now so he can maintain his l3v3l of l33tne55.
I have been a multi spectrum gamer since pong rf and modern pc gamer since the internet caught up to hardware in my area (1999). Every IM program, voice program, game monitoring friends list has it's pro's and con's. While Steam certainly seems less obtrusive than Xfire I would never go out on a limb and champion Steam. It has it's limitations just like xfire.
Look at the numbers Tony. Gamers did just that. They flocked to the Xbox, Ps3 and the wii. The developers followed also. Where does that leave us diehards? Playing the same recycled crap over and over. Boy if you can't see that something is wrong. I was also referring to rampant cheating and no it does not have to exist. Lets see you overclock your cpu if intel locks it down on the die. Intel could very easily (single handedly) monitor user input for macros or other inhuman response times and make a large portion of cheats vanish.
PC gaming sucks. How many good releases this year? Count them for me please?
I miss casual gamers. They are the majority and the reason developers wow'ed us for so long. Otherwise, I agree that the PC is superior to consoles until your games vanish.

As far as I see it, this is like a gold digger and a rich man scenario. The rich man (pc gamers) will give anything (money) to the gold digger (IW) as long as the gold digger keeps him happy. However If the rich man figures out he's been cheated and lied to he will dump the gold digger and the gold digger won't be able to use him as a source of money anymore, even though the rich man made the gold digger what they are today. I came up with that all by myself :P . Right now IW has the potential to lose 9 million dollars worth of sales. (I just multiplied 60 (cost of game) by 150,000 (number of people that signed the petition))

@ DoubleK. Oh, it's on now!

It does have to do with ISP, but only a fool thinks it has nothing to do with physical distance. I only play servers from the midwest (usually Chicago or Dallas/Fort Worth because my ping stays under 60. If I try servers from the coasts, it jumps to 80-120.False. A closer server has absolutely nothing to do with lag and more to do with network characteristics of an isp and their backbone provider.
I agree there is no single solution, but it doesn't make my statement "false." VAC does a good job of taking care of 80% of problems you'll get on a pub server. I'm not doing clan warfare, so that's good enough for me.False. There will never be a single solution to rectify cheating.
Uhh, you do know you can voice mute individual players from within most games voice support, right? Quit being arrogant with your "false" label. What I'm saying isn't false, only different.False Most Pros will always have in game voice turned off and collaborating strategy amongst themselves to map how the sheep huddle. Besides that who really wants to listen to some jobless loser jerk who put in 55 hours last week in Cod describe how he is going to go and get drunk or high now so he can maintain his l3v3l of l33tne55.
Really? A minute ago you despised them because of how they "is going to go and get drunk or high now so he can maintain his l3v3l of l33tne55."I miss casual gamers.
Make up your mind!
Define "good". What I think is good you may find to be horrid. So count them yourself.PC gaming sucks. How many good releases this year? Count them for me please?
