| PC Modern Warfare 2: it's much worse than you thought *UPDATED*
From Ars Technica: Quote: | Modern Warfare 2 has long earned the ire of PC gamers for its lack of dedicated servers, but Infinity Ward has now announced that it's taking away much more than control over hosting with the game in one long face-palm of a question and answer session. No servers, no console, no mods, no problem!
| I think that this game is going down as epic fail. Nothing i have heard of late is good press for the game let alone mediocre. I have serious doubts this game is going to do well on the PC side and maybe not even on the console side as people just dont care to buy a game with all this negative hype...
I for one am going to tell people to save their money for another iteration of the game later.

Haha..
I just showed DoubleK this article lastnight. I think I talked him out of getting it.
I know I'm not gonna hand over my hard earned money to play a console port on my PC. |

That is F*CKED UP... seriously. well, looks like PC sales for COD:MW2 (I prefer to type out the COD part to avoid confusion with the old MechWarrior 2 game that usually goes by MW2) are down the tubes, thank god I wasn't going to jump on buying this game anyways. though my brother the other day when I told him about the PC versions downfalls, he even said that was F'n wrong.
and he pre-ordered the dumb $160+ version for 360 with the NVG's.
I'm wondering if the console versions will also be limited to the 9v9 player limit in servers as well, or is this just the PC version?
also how the console version goes about hosting, if its similar to the All players hosting scheme the PC version has to deal with?
that might piss of some console users if thats the case too.
either way, this sounds like it could be the worse selling COD game of all time.
they're right about the pirates, though if it severely affects the sales on the PC, I suspect IW will do one of two things, cease making any more PC titles of the franchise (although they could release further titles despite sales and milk the PC crowd as long as they can until it just does not warrant the effort anymore), thinking the PC gamers are ungrateful A-holes, or be forced to release a massive patch later in the games life and enable some of the features that are sought after and needed.
more likely than not, they'll tell PC gamers where to go and stop porting the title, only to milk console gamers instead.

also how the console version goes about hosting, if its similar to the All players hosting scheme the PC version has to deal with? AFAIK, it's setup the same way. I haven't seen anything that says otherwise.

A) Jacked up the price just for the PC port
B) With many people refusing to play the MP, they will pirate the game just to play the single player missions.
C) NO FREE DEMO AT ALL <---- horrible idea IMO
D) Info has leaked that the campaign will take roughly 6-7 hours to finish. IMO, $60 is not worth 6 hours.
and there are many more.
I will be skipping this game for sure |

well, on the player vs player limit, letting my brother know as soon as he comes home, as well as showing him all the links for the PC version that have been posted in this thread and the other one from a week or two ago, and see if he wants to cancel his pre order...
as it is, when he gets back to his base, he said he is going to trade in a ton of his games towards a new system.
said something about he heard M$ will be releasing some sort of version of the 360 that will play Blu Ray, not sure if thats even true, but thats what he was hoping to sell a bunch of his games for once that comes out...
anyways, don't think my bro will be that happy hearing about much of this either. |

Welp, that's it. With all the TV hype and graphic eye candy I'm going to hold on to my $60. My last FPS's were BF2 and MW1. And I've got more than enough HW to run it.
Damn, I was looking forward to it also.Remember today's execs are more console gamers than PC vets nowadays. They know where the market is. |

I will be skipping this game for sure | Halo: ODST comes to mind for a 50 dollar game at roughly 6-7 hours to complete ...
Either way, lets face the facts. This is obviously a Console Port to PC gone wrong. If they dont learn from their mistakes this time ... all hell will break out when they do it again! |

They know where the market is. | Obviously not when it comes to the PC market, if they're going to screw that area over, why even bother, the minute amount of sales they'll make, compared to Console market, isn't even worth the effort, just save that money that would of been spent on producing for the PC, for more marketing and hype to dupe Console gamers into buying their crap. |

At least we still have BF:BC to look forward to. They have already announced they are doing dedicated servers. And if you check out some trailers on youtube, the gameplay looks miles better then MW2 IMO.
@Shy,
I read a couple weeks back that indeed MS was going to blue ray. I think it's gonna be a stand alone player that attaches to the Xbox though. I don't think it's going to be internal like the PS3. |
