What we (and Activision) learned from Modern Warfare 2

Activision sent out a proud press release stating that Modern Warfare 2 has sold over $1 billion worth of product worldwide. This is according to internal estimates, of course, but the Call of Duty franchise is large enough to make the claim believable.

The real question is what have PC Gamers learned?

I gave IW and Activision the benefit of the doubt in regards to no dedicated servers and all I will say is that I was equally ashamed as those who judged the game before they played it and IW for now ignoring the obvious.

Simply put this game sucks ass in so many regards on PC that I will NEVER purchase another game without dedicated servers.

I despise being at the mercy of someones horrible connection. I love the fact that IW Net can tell a hosts connections reliability in ten seconds.

I dislike migrating hosts or worse yet getting those precious last few penetration kills for a challenge only to lose sync with the host or have the hosts connection fail.

I dislike Vac and how easy it would be to ban rank cheaters. I dislike the fact that VAC detected me as cheating because someone decided to enter the server I was in and change maps mid game and crank the experience so you level 70 after one kill. Granted I was not VAC banned thank goodness but my level 2 prestige feels unearned even though I was level 56 when this happened. Steam assures me I am safe even though hackers have hacked the IW Net server protocol Any old gamer recalls the good old telnet server hacks of old. I ponder how long before my key shows as being a duplicate? I know they are md5 hashed right!

I dislike the fact that VAC and Punkbuster don't ban the hardware forever ANY game engine. In essence through their own greed perpetuate cheating and hacking.

I hate cheaters in any form or excuse.

I hate the game hackers not because they are creative rather because they make this crap public and it diminishes the experience.

CODMW2 is truly an impressive console game. Pass on the pc until dedicated servers.
