Command and Conquer Help Please
Hello,
I bought Command and Conquer Generals a while back and never got into it because the cheesy little manual that came with it was not much help to get started. Is there a walk through available for this game any where around that anyone knows of? I bought the game because I read good reviews about it. The tutorial is not that informative either. Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Hans Groenewold

Have you ever played any of the older C&C games? Such as Red Alert or Red Alert2?

Hi Aero,
Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it. I haven't even made a first attempt to play C&C. I tried the tutorial and saw that the game was unlike anything else I had tried before, which I knew. There just wasn't enough info to get started properly. I bought it because the reviews on it were very good.
Thanks to you, I'm progressing with Vice City too. I now own the Malibu and I'm getting ready for the bank job, I'm looking for a driver. I just started VietCong as well, I've had that since last year and briefly started then stopped. I saw the ad for Battlefield Vietnam and wanted to get it. Then I thought, I haven't even played Vietcong yet.
Have you played Battlefield 1942? I know it's an older game, but I picked it up after I did Call of Duty. I only like to have two games going at the same time so I can concentrate better. I'll do a mission in VietCong and one in Vice City, time permitting of course. Anyway, thanks again for your help.
BTW, what's your opinion on Freedom Fighters? I'm about halfway through that. I picked it up for only $19.95 and didn't expect much. I was surprised that the game was fairly decent.
Sincerely,

Hello Hans,
I'm not much of an RTS fan, so I don't know very much about Generals. A couple of years ago, I tried to get into Red Alert and another similar game called Ground Control- but I found that that the isometric viewpoint wasn't my style. I like to be right down there in the action, so I prefer 1st-person/3rd person view shooter games.
I haven't played BF'42 yet, wanted to try it out- but I've heard that it's more of a multiplayer game. Lots of people have told me that the single player levels aren't very good. I've seen VietCong on the store shelves, but haven't looked at it very closely.
I almost bought Freedom Fighters awhile back, but then I noticed that it requires squad management. There again- that's not really my style of game. I guess I'm more of the "lone wolf" type of player, I've got enough problems keeping myself alive- don't need to be worrying about my whole team.
I did play Call of Duty, and enjoyed it thoroughly- IMHO it's one of the best FPS games ever made. Even though I had a team of guys at my side, I didn't have to worry about ordering them around. Though I wish they had been a little more intelligent, and not rushed headlong into battle so quick. Me, I kinda hung back and camped out with my sniper rifle.
Currently, I'm taking a little bit of a break from FPS games- am waiting patiently for Far Cry to be released. Right now I'm working my way through Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc and Silent Hill 3.
Regards,
Aero

Aero,
Yeah, Call of Duty was cool as hell. The graphics were some of the best I have seen. That's what made me get Battlefield 1942, although it's an older game so the graphics are not top notch. I recommend Vietcong though, the graphics are excellent and since it's almost a year old, it's only like $20. The only drawback if you wanna call it that, is that the VC are hard to see so it's hard to shoot 'em.
Take care,
Hans

Anything else you need to know about Generals? It's not terribly hard to play once you get into it, but it is quite challenging to play well, especially on multiplayer.
Call of Duty is my favorite game. Stalingrad and the Red Square fights were the most intense I've seen in any game ever. Forget Enemy at the Gates, I'm living the war

Talking of both RTS and FPS reminds of the RTS game Machines. It had an interesting feature. You could select any of your units and take 1st person control. I liked the way the game worked but unfortunately the levels become pretty much impossible not too far into the game. Also, the game's company was closed down, killing any chance for a better sequel.
If you want another good FPS game check out the UT2004 demo.

That sounds similar to a new RTS game called Savage.
