For some reason I can't get a joystick working in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I'm using the single player Demo version BTW.
I've got a Logitech Wingman Attack, and it seems to work fine in Quake, and other FPS games.
I couldn't even find any info on whether RTCW supports a joystick, and I've been over several websites devoted to the game.
Any ideas?
PS: My prefered setup for Quake, Unreal, etc. is the trackball in the left hand & joystick in the right. I use the ball for aiming & sliding, & the stick for all other motion & weapons. Works great for me, but I'm not going to buy the full version if I can't use the stick. That would be an unpardonable throwback. |

I'm thinking that you're SOL.
I just went through all the options and joysticks aren't in there. Also went through the readmes and manual. It's not looking good.
Fred (for the full version that is) |

I'm so glad someone else is facing this let down too. I've run into this quite a bit in fps games and others (Oni, hmmm well that's the only other one I can think of right now). I just can't channel my rage through a keyboard and mouse, how is this supposed to be fun and exciting. I'm getting more used to it, but it still drives me nuts. Maybe because I use the keyboard and mouse so much at work that's what I associate it with. Anyway, it really can't be too hard to make joysticks/gamepads available for these games. |

I thought this game was based on the Quake software, and the Quake games were some of the best configured & rendered ever, IMHO. Game control was great with the trackball & joystick.
Geeze...I really liked the RTCW Demo, but keyboard control is so clunky and , well frankly DOSish. Pre-DOSish even! Duke Nukem 3D and Doom ran great under DOS, and they supported both my trackball & joystick.
This seems like a real step backwards for game control...are they trying to push us into console machines? or what??? |

RTCW has joystick support
Simply type the following command in
in the console
/set In_joystick 1
you can save a step by going into the wolfenstein cfg files and changing in_joystick from 0 to 1
After you do this there will be no problems just restart the game and you are off to the races.
Joystick FPS forever!!! |

Doesn't that disable the mouse?
I wanna run both at the same time.
PS: Thanks for the reply! |

I am using joystick mouse combo. it works for me.
If we are talking about rtcw demo I am not sure if it works.
but I am relatively sure it works in both situations |

Just the demo here. I was way too upset by the lack of stick support to pay over $50 for the retail version!
BTW, I usually don't buy this stuff until the price drops to around $10~$20 anyhow (at $20, Serious Sam was a no-brainer!) but I had to buy some of the latest stuff to try out my new GeForce card And the RTCW demo was certainly top-notch otherwise. |

The demos don't support joysticks; you'll need some sort of keyboard emulation software to do so.
The retail game does support joysticks, though it's not obvious. Here's the joystick section of my autoexec.cfg:
//Joystick Settings
seta in_joystick "1"
seta joy_threshold ".3"
seta cl_run "1"
//Trackball Settings
seta in_mouse "1"
seta m_side "0.25"
seta m_forward "0.25"
seta m_yaw "0.022"
seta m_pitch "-0.022000"
seta sensitivity "30"
seta freelook "1"
//Axis Bindings
bind UPARROW "+forward"
bind DOWNARROW "+back"
bind LEFTARROW "+moveleft"
bind RIGHTARROW "+moveright"
//Comment
echo "CH F-16 FighterStick + KEMP loaded"
