setting profiles for sidewinder precision pro

hi
my operating system is win me
and im trying to play comancehe 4 with a sidewinder precision pro joystick

my dad gave me this joystick as hes upgraded, but there are no instructions to go with it

when i first tried to use it some of the buttons would work whilst playing the game and others wouldnt.
i found how to make your own profile for the joystick buttons and have activated the profile but they still dont work as they should.

when i uninstalled the profile i made, the joystick seemed to remember what i had programmed it to do

i have downloaded updates for the game and the joystick, and the joystick is compatible with the game

does anyone know how i can programme the joystick properly?
