I have just downloaded a demo of Mega Race 3. While I was on the site I also downloaded the only patch they have available.
Unzipping the file reveals a directory that needs no installer as it is ready to play from within itself (open the M3Configurer.exe adjust the graphics res and bit colour choice - I chose 1024x768x32) then run the game (Megarace3_demo.exe).
Before I did that, I tried to apply the patch but it doesn't seem to work as all it does is start to 'prepare for installshield...' then dissappears and nothing seems to have happened so I try to move it into the unzipped folder where the game resides and still the same thing occurs.
Anyway, so I open the main game executable and it starts the game and presents a menu. This is where I notice that something is wrong. The game is cycling through the options like I have my finger pressed on the down (or right) arrow. This hapenned to me once before in another game and I realised that I had my joystick leaning against something and the actually stick was pushed to the left (or right - can't remember, doesn't matter) and that was causing the menu to cycle through the options but this time the joystick is flat and level and I even disconnected it just to be sure.
The joystick is configured correctly and appears in the control panel as 'ok'. It seems to work fine in all other games. One thing I have noticed is that the 'numlock' button stays on while I am battling the menu and cannot be switched off. The arrows do have some effect on the menu options (they alter/disrupt the pattern of scrolling/cycling) but I have been mostly hitting enter while trying to 'catch' the hilighter while it is passing over the menu item I want - eventually I can get into the options menu where, if I am patient, I can select the Logitech Digital3D controller - so it can see the joystick ok - but forget trying to set the options. Eventually I run out of patience trying to stabilise it and got out.
DSL so I downloaded it again and it still behaves the same. I have plenty of (1GHz) power, 512MB SDRAM, GeForce3 (Gainward Powerpack) on a CUSL2-C board and the game looks very enticing so I'd like to work this out or, at the least, find out if anyone is having the same problems or if any of you have any other suggestions.
OS: Win98 (original)

OK, no replies.
Let me ask another question then; Has anyone downloaded the MegaRace3 demo and NOT experienced any problems? |

I've noticed at The Adrenaline Vault that users have given it a rating of 26 out of 100, so I've avoided d/l'ing it. But I'll snag it and give it a try for ya. |

Don't know what to tell ya Bitm@d...I d/l it and it played alright for me. I didn't get any patch or anything for it.
After I quit the gameplay back to the menu it gave me an error saying something about my 8MB memory card for my Playstation 2 was not functioning correctly. 8^)
Gotta be honest, you're not missing anything. This is really a crap game. I have never liked the hovercraft type racer games, but still I can tell a good qualtiy, well coded game from a crap game...this really is a crap game. The gameplay is simply horrible, very "un-smooth". And it is not my computer because I have more than enough horsepower to run it.
I think it's just ported from the PS2 extremely poorly. It might actually be an ok game on a PS2. |

You've convinced me Out...
I'll take your word for it and avoid any further bother. I was duped by the screenshots I guess.
I'm running out of good racing games to try. |

ROLF Megarace! LOL The original came with my Packerd Bell Pentium60 (the chip nobody talks about on the mobo no one heard about). It was the soriest excuse for a game ever! I got to the 10th level after months only to find an error that crashed the game (and left me to do it all over again). It starred the deputy from Andy Griphith. It was just funny (though it had some good video for the time).
Any way Megarace3! LOL |

In Bitm@d's defense I must say, when the game started up it initially looked "purdy". And the screenshots (i.e. still-frames) do look nice. But it's the movement that kills the games. Plus half the time you can't tell the difference between the track and the background (which was very irritating). |

| lol, I remember this game. My friend's family had a PB computer.....totally SUCKY....although they had it successfully for 6 years ........yes, the graphics and video were quite good at the time, although I hadn't seen much else in the computer gaming world. |
