Theres this place I go to with 1.4Ghz Athlon..256MB RAM, GF2 vid card...Cheap, gets job done.
For games...the people play mostly CS, Starcraft, Diablo 2, WarCraft 3 and GunBound.
The place also has battlefield, ut2003, and a WHOLE BUNCH of others, but barely anybody(read: ZERO) plays them. They are just collecting dust sitting on the shelves. You might want to have a few copies to keep customers pleased..but dont go and buy 50 of them. (Might be different in your area...I don't want to ruin your business or anything.) |

P4 3Ghz
512MB DDR - 1GB
128MB Video Card... most I have seen use ATI as they can get free copies of HL2 with it or could long ago.
H.D.D. was what they needed. 120GB I think. They ordered Identical parts as often as possible for bulk discounts and such.
19 Inch Screens

Crazy thought here, but how about charging based on the computer's 3DMark2001 score? Just a thought.

Money comes from the beverages, chips, etc, etc.
I have Halflife with an ATI card.... works since a year ago with out problems, altought its a 9500 It could be a different history, and its very possible instead of 9600 I get the 9800... |

Some places around here go really high on the CPU, but crap out with the video card.
Example, most places have this configuration:
2-3ghz P4
40-80gb hard drive
512mb DDR ram
Geforce4
And many of these places play DX9 games on them (Battlefield VIetnam, Far Cry, Painkiller, etc..) and they have to turn the graphics down to get decent FPS, which makes the games look like crap.
THere is one Cafe here where they have pretty good systems:
AMD XP2500 (10 computers)
AMD 64 3000(10 Computers)
1gb ram
80gb SATA drives
Nforce2 for 2500+
KT8000 For AMD64
And they have a mix of 5900XT (They OC them to U levels) and ATI 9800 Pros
They also have 4 xboxs hooked up to 4 36" TVs
And about 5 internet surfing computers (Them slim dell PCs running on Celerons)
Its a pretty nice place, but its expensive, about $50 for a computer.
I preferr BYOC lan parties.
