is it running in 16 colors!!?!

i started up halo, start > program files > etc. and when i entered a multiplayer game everything looked like it was in 16 colors or something... i cant change the refresh rate, specular, or shadows, all three are unselectable... so i tried reinstalling drivers, no go, tested directdraw and direct3d through dxdiag, no go. i then decided to take a video with FRAPS to show you, the video is in AVI format and is smaller than 5MB, about 40 seconds of video:

here's the video

amd 2500+ processor
512MB ram, 1 stick 256MB, 2 sticks 128mb
geforce 4 mx 400 32mb video card
shuttle an35-(n) ultra 400 nforce2 motherboard

any suggestions?

have you tried unistalling and reinstalling video drivers, check in video options on halo, if you are using video acceleration. (dont remeber if the option is there)

well i meant uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers..... hardware acceleration is at full, but i dont see anything that says video acceleration

uhh? those video drivers are the pretty recent, actually, they ARE the most up to date video drivers...

halo automatically updates when you go into multiplayer, so no problem there.

Have you checked the brightness, contrast, and gamma settings?

I had same issue and it was my drivers needing an update ( i have a ti4200 128mb)

I know You have the most receent drivers but I thought I'd let you know my experience. Maybe You're drivers got messed up or something?. Can you uninstall then install then from the video cards web site?..

should i try reseating the video card? i know it's not and of the visual settings because every other game works fine.

now that's straaange... if i go start > program files > microsoft games > halo > halo... that's when i get the 16 colors crap

but when i used the halo icon i have in a folder on the desktop (which runs in windowed mode) everything looked fine, but now everything looks dark... i think that might be because i'm overclocking my geforce 2 =D and might've fried something. anyway i guess i'll be using that icon from now on!! but still wondering why the 16 colors when i do the start > program files?

update ~~~ only works in windowed mode, BUT, everything is darker than it should be, and i cannot change specular and shadows now!!!!

i get huge green blobs when the banshee's missle blows up, huge blue blobs when the plasma grenade blows up, and when you shoot somebody when they have shields, they glow bright yellow

Have you tried to run the game with the card not overclocked?

Maybe it is the card itself.. You said it is a MX series.. I know that the MX series of cards are not ideal for game play.. and I own HALO on PC.. and even up to a Ti 4600 ran it chunkie in parts.. maybe think of upgrading to a non-neutered 3D card..
