think about maybe getting a desktop if you want gaming? Do you really need the portability?

Yes, want portability...from room to room, outside, occassional times on the road. Any thoughts?

For what its worth, i just picked up an HP pvaillion umm zt5600? (can't remember i'm at work now)
But it works fast and flawlessly, its got a 2800+ xp m in it, and i picked it up for 1099 due to rebate but if you shop around you might be able to find it, 512, integrated lan/wireless/dvd/cdr/40 gig. They also have good customer service, i'm not so much willing to go digging into a laptop if it breaks as i am a desktop. My friend had the exact same lappy as me just the bigger monitor version. Started having problems with it, Called HP, and less than 2 weeks from that moment had a brand new computer with double the hard disk space as a customer satisfaction bonus.
There is a thread from just today about how ridiculously overpriced alienware's are, if you search for it i'm sure you'll find plenty of that.
I don't have any personal experience with the two companies you are asking about but i feel that anyone who buys laptops from a place without some customer service is rolling the dice. ya dig?

What hard drive are you getting? SATAs are a pain to install Windows on, but as far as the physical assembly, it should be no different than any computer. Just read the books and you should be fine.

Do you think it is worth spending the money and buying a better hard drive or just keep the Dell?

I tried scanning the thread but didn't see the size. If you feel comfortable with the size, I wouldn't upgrade solely for the performance enhancement. The performance will increase but not enough to upgrade just for that reason.

NOT a celeron. celeron sucks ass. my laptop lags while watching music videos and chatting on aim. its *deleted* ... speaking of dell... dell sucks too. dell is the worst computer company you can buy from. i too know from expirience with this *deleted* they sold me. you can get a better computer from gateway for less $$$$. i leave everyone with this FACT... DELL SUX!
