UT2004 on home network?

Ok fellas...trying to play against my buddy here(2 computers--crossover cable). Do I need to download a dedicated server file or what? I went into "host game", selected map, settings, etc...clicked "dedicated" to start the server...the little info box came up showing me all kinds of things it was doing, but the game never launched. I've adjusted settings, but still nothing. Am I going about this the wrong way? We're both playing with the 3236 patch. Never tried this before, so please hold back your "DUH"s. Well, okay...don't hold them back...I can laugh at myself all the same.

Thanks!
Mike

no dont set up the dedicated server, (im going off the top of my head) just go into multiplayer. click the lan game section and then click create game. set the map you want and etc and then start the game.

the way you are setting it is that the computer is solely used to be the server meaning you cant play on it.

The game started.
But a 'Dedicated server' means just that. It's dedicated to be the server, NOT playing the game.
You just need to start a regular multiplayer game, not a dedicated server.

Um...I see 'single player', 'join game', 'host game', 'instant action', etc...when I go into 'join game' or 'host game', I see no options to create multiplayer game.

Maybe I'm totally blind right now.

Tried that before...can't do it...I'm in 'host game' now, selected my game type, map, etc...but the only options to launch the game are "listen" and "dedicated".
No "start game" anywhere...screenshot to come.

what you want is a listen game. That will start you up playing and your buddy can join in the join game menu.
