pallies are!
plate + shield = a little <8000 armor
they are the tank healers
but shamans can wear mail, not plate  | |

When I played my shaman 90% of the time paladin hardly could win a fight vs me, even i won vs pallies that had half their epic armor and I had at much a piece.
Been awhile since i have dueled a paladin, but they are not as hard if you know how make them waste mana. | |
