ferocity is ferocity, your core hound has the same talent tree. I use the core hound too, but any ferocity BM pet is fine IMO. The thing I kinda liked about the core hound is his special attack is ranged, so it actually pulls the mob to it to tank. Personally, when leveling, I stay away from cds if possible. Since you're leveling and your pet actually is a tank, even though it's a dps pet, you probably wanna take the increased health and armor. Dash has always annoyed me, I'm sure you've experienced 'pet dancing' and if dash is up when it does that it's gonna run your mob halfway across the map pulling whatever's in the way. While leveling, you wanna take boar's speed, I can't speak for raiding but the faster your pet gets to a mob the sooner you get to shoot it to death. Bloodthirsty means you never have to feed your pet.
here's a second take on a leveling ferocity spec Pet Calculator - Wowhead |

here's a second take on a leveling ferocity spec Pet Calculator - Wowhead | Is that what's going on??? I have seen that several times already and it almost looks like my pet is on ice! Thanks for that info...I definitely don't want to use dash if that's what is helping my pet 'dance' even further. Terribly annoying!
Thanks for the link...I knew you sent me a template in the game, but I was thinking it was only for a specific pet.
I agree about the core hound...that special move that pulls the mob towards him is nice! Thanks for the link, too!

pet dancing is due to pets and mobs trying to get behind eachother I think. |

And I would put the point in pathfinding, personally. 1% crit isn't anything. Another 4% movement is noticeable.
I preferred a tank pet for leveling. I used a crab, but didn't use the pinch ability it came with, just let it use its focus for its other abilities. Worms are also good, but depending on which you get (I have a jormungar from the east side of Borean Tundra) they're huge and annoying to run around with. The crab is small, doesn't get in the way a lot, and is just as good as any other tank pet.
I made a mod that I have somewhere that gets rid of the devilsaur/core hound/mammoth stomp sounds if you want it. Oh, and also the wasp wing buzz. |

Interesting...on your Wowhead build, where it shows "Culling the Herd", I have "Avoidance" in that spot instead. I looked it up: Avoidance: This talent has been replaced by Culling the Herd. Hunter pets now innately take 90% less damage from area-of-effect abilities like all other class pets. This does not apply to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.
Why does mine still show Avoidance?
EDIT: Aaah...it appears that is the test realm. Should I avoid getting Avoidance? |
