xbox live help
Ok I used to have the xbox hooked up directly through the router bu now I want to use it in my basement so i does not use the upstairs tv. I have a computer downstairs hooked up wirelessly to the internet. I put a pci lan card into my computer and put in a cable between the xbox and the card. I have tried bridging the connection but that just makes the internet not work. I think the reason it does not work is because the lan card does not have an ip address. Anyway I want to figure out how to get this working without buying an $80 wireless thing for the xbox or running a coax or lan cable all the way down here. Thanks
NOTE: I have have used the search button on the forums and did not find anything, and that dsl/ps2 thread just started does not help either.

First you need to make sure you are using a crossover cable between the xbox and pc, not a patch cable that would run from your router to the xbox or pc. Then the only thing I can think of is to hook up your modem to your computer and use ics.

i am using a crossover cable. And the modem is a cable modem so it has to stay upstairs hence the long coaxle from upstairs to downstairs for the cable modem to work down here

Does the lan card in your computer light up? If you does try going into your xbox and setting up the network settings. If you are using DHCP, it might not be getting though to the xbox.

you need to set up internet connection sharing on the PC. Your ping times might not be too good with that setup though (or they might be fine!) - xbox to PC LAN to PC wireless to router to Net - quite a long trip. Something to watch out for if you get stutters in your games.
