I have to agree with Zero that stupid people pirating games is what caused all this B.S. with HL2. However, tarek is right, this is just a demo, and should be free. But, tarek, how many free websites have you registered with to get at its great free content (like the one your currently looking at)? Same thing really, but its a game not a website.
Also, don't direct all your hate at Valve and Steam, they are just pawns. Vivendi Universal are the game publishers and the ones who implemented this on-line registering thing.

The problem with this whole cd key thing with steam is that once someone buys half life lets say, and when they memorize the cd key, they just return it. They should fix that cuz i payed $10 for cs cd key and many others bought it. Its just not fair to the ones who actually bought it and who just plays it with the cd key they stole. |

I just finished playing the demo (hopefully getting the full version for xmas) and I have to admit it was just more of a hassle to have to register before playing. But Mighty Mouse makes a good point. In order to GET the demo you have to register at sites like Fileplanet and Gamespot (although I got it from ATI's site). It's no different to have to register before using the demo. Plus this way if you get the full version all you have to do is login
EDIT:
Mighty Mouse that article is SCARY. Half Life and CS only on XBOX?? Wow that would suck. |

I can't play either. I have many many games, no problems... HL2 Demo will not play it has this memory error, the same error that is filling the HL2 forums up fast.. during the time when it is loading the game....
'The Instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x#######. The memory could not be 'read'
I have new computer.. (about a year old)
Asus P4P800 with Kingston PC3200 DDR dual Ram
512MB
WinXP pro
Radeon 9800 Pro video card... etc..etc..
There are hundreds aof angry posts about this stupid error...
Just frustrating when developers give a crappy product out.. |

| Nope, Steam was entirely Valve's idea. Vivendi would be satisfied with a simple solution like in all other games: the "enter cd-key here" screenie.
the link is several years old. notice it mentions both HL2 and Condition Zero in a future tense?

Plus lets think about this... you register with steam, install it.. play the demo. Steams on your computer reminding you of HL2... so what do you want to do next? Go buy the game. Simple marketing strategy.
