What type of game are you looking for? A single player? Multiplayer? Action? Mystery? One that takes a looooong time?

can you handle first person shooters without getting sick?
or you want RGP's?
half life was always a fav to play around. not to fast but can be scary as hell if you play at night. Yes i know its old but you can't tell me the storyline and game play was NOT fun. Alittle more advance is Max Payne. might be hard if you never really tried out first persons. There also the rainbow six series that is entertaining.
Also for RPG's tr Starcraft and the diablo series. |

My sister's an eternal newbie and she enjoys Tomb Raider
I played the 2nd one (though I didn't complete it) and it kept me fairly entertained. I think they're all available on budget so you could pick one up pretty cheap. The trouble with getting the first one is it's really old so the graphics are poor by today's standards and there's a chance you'd have incompatabilities running it on a modern system. |

Role Playing Game
I think any of the Blizzard Entertainment would be good, and you get to play over the internet with others for free with battle.net.
Games like Warcraft, Starcraft/Brood War, and the original Diablo are all inexpensive and fairly easy to learn.

Well I was thinking what games I would recommend for a real newbie... and I suddenly discovered all the games with the real short learning curves are older ones. Some of 'em might be hard to find...
A good introductory game for racing would be Need For Speed 2... which is no longer sold in any stores. To get into RTS (Real Time Strategy) I'd recommend WarCraft2. FPS games that are easier to get started with would include Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, or HalfLife (I think games like Ghost Recon or Medal of Honor might take a little more time to learn...) SimCity 2000 or 3000 would be a good game too...
Problem is, most of the games I "cut my gaming teeth on" aren't sold in stores anymore... and those are just 2 or 3 years old! Another issue is each game genre kind of requires it's own set of skills. I can whoop up on my friend all the time in FPS games, but he's easily better than me in racing games, and I've put lots of time in both...
Here's a list of the more popular genres... you tell us what kind of games you're interested in, and we'll give you ideas.
FPS (First Person Shooter)
RPG (Role Playing Game)
RTS (Real Time Strategy)
Action/Adventure
Turn-Based Strategy
Racing
Sports
Simulation (city sims, park sims, etc...)
Aircraft Simulation
These are all I can think of... if anyone thinks this list is incomplete or inaccurate, please feel free to make your own - I certainly won't be offended. |
