Can't get MCM2 to play online.

I have a DSL connection with a proxy and dynamic IP address, and when the host launches the internet game, MCM2 searches for the CD, finds it, and then sits there with a black screen like it stopped responding. Is this because of the proxy/firewall? Has anyone else seen this happen? Is there a way to set The Zone to work with complicated network setups?

Yep, it's that firewall you're behind... Although there are specific ports that MS requires, I noticed no more than one other player can be seen in the game when you're behind a firewall... For example, if the game launched with 8 people, you'll only see the host in the game... I just put down my Linksys firewall and have NIS2002 running when I play mcm2 online because of this reason. You might want to give it a try. Maybe it'll work for you...

The following TCP ports must be open to play MCM2 at the Zone:

Thanks, I'll look into it more tonight or tomorrow. I'm reading about NIS2002 now, since you mentioned it. So far it sounds pretty good for security, and I'm moving out of my apartment into my own house in the next month or two... so I'll need to do SOMETHING.

By the way, does MCM2 seem unstable to you at all? I've had crashes here and there, although it could be a flaky Win98 install. I've had Vxd blue screens and invalid page faults in Kernel32.... time to reach for the W98 CD again methinks. Haven't noticed it in other programs - OH wait, I never use any other programs!

No, MCM2 doesn't cause any instability on two of the systems I have this installed on.... Only problem is that darn Zone server where it boots you back to the lounge when the Zone server is congested....
