So, some dude claims to have the specs for Nintendo's Revolution. Now, there's a lot of that flying around; this difference is this is the same dude who revealed(guessed correctly?) XBOX 360's specs, so it has slightly more weight. Quote: |
The brains of the console are rumored to be a single dual-threaded IBM custom PowerPC 2.5 GHz CPU, with 256 KB L1 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache (L3 cache is rumored). The system will also sport a Physical Processing Chip (PPU) with 32MB of dedicated RAM, while the CPU itself will saddled up next to 512MB of system RAM. The custom ATI GPU solution is rumored to consist of a RN520 600MHz core, backed with 256MB of RAM and 32 parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines.
| Ok, here's the interesting part. According to Ars Technica, the Revolution may perform on par with the 360 and better than the PS3! Quote: |
As far as Revolution's performance relative to the other two consoles, if the specs are true and what I've said above about the architecture is correct, then it's not at all far-fetched to say that it will initially perform on-par with the Xbox 360 and better than the PS3, despite having less hardware to go around.

Well, that is really hard to belive that it will "perform on-par with the Xbox 360 and better than the PS3"...Umm...did they ever hear that the nintendo revolution is NOT going to have HD support?

yeah, so here's something thats bugging me with that theory. How do you download the older games? remember, N will roll out a system that allows you to purchase retro NES/SNES games online. will those titles be streamed? or downloaded?
I think the main point being made is the newer procs(especially in PS3) will take years before devs can really start wringing all the juice out of them. Whereas Rev features an old-school 2.5ghz chip. Clearly its easier and less costly to develop for said system. |

Ya, I think you connect to a server they have, and download it...but wait...there isn't going to be a hdd... I am lost! Well, I don't know what is going on with nintendo...
And ya, I can see what they mean, but it is just that they didn't write it the right way...if they mean what I think...
Well, ya, the PS3 is going to have horrible games the first while...nobody knows what they are doing yet with the dev kit...it is all made up by sony...and see, that is why the 360 and revolution are going to be so great right away! They are using really standard coding, and just have a few extras that are specific to the console...not like the PS3 that has all special code... |

You guys would be surprised.
First of all the ps3 is more powerful than xbox360 (I hate to admit it, but it's true)
Nintendo won't be needing a HDD. They will be using a flash card last I heard. Think about how many old games you could fit on a 512mb stick. hundreds!
HD support is still in speculation for the Revolution aswell. rumors are flying, we will all find out true specs soon enough i guess (e3........)
watch the video for MGS4 and it is real time http://www.konami.jp/gs/kojima_pro/j...e/mgs4_04.html

I wouldn't generalize it, and say the PS3 is more powerfull than the 360...unless there is a way to test both at the same thing using the same code, we will not know...don't just say that because "theoretically" it is many times more powerfull...
I remember one vid card...it was like the 3D1...it had 2 gpus on the single card...it was called the Volari Duo V8 Ultra...ever heard about it? It had 8 pixel, and 2 texture pipes on each core...so theoretically, it should spank a 6800 Ultra...but in fact, it got spanked by a 9800 Pro! http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/volari-duo/ |

yes but we are talking systems, not videocards. From what I have seen, and read, the ps3 will be able to pull off better graphics.
Look at a ps3 tekken vid, then look at the new doa... |

Well, ya, the PS3 vids look good, but the 360 vids look just as good from what I have seen! Did you check the microsoft website? They have HD vids on some of the games that are coming out for the 360... |

Xbox360 is good, but IMO it should have been called Xbox1.5 because it needs work. First of all 2 system price points killed it for me, secondly, 100dollars for wireless connection capabilities, while the other two systems come standard with them?
M$ pushed too many buttons this time around. Xbox was only good b/c of it's graphics and HDD. Now that it doesn't come standard with a HDD where all games are programed with it in mind, and the fact that it won't surpass any system graphically, there is nothing much left in it. |

I believe, if I understood correctly, that the Revolution with have 512MB dedicated solid state memory to ROM storage.
