| NEED For SPEED Most Wanted: Crashes to Desktop: Please Help
Hi All,
I recently got NFS Mostwanted installed and couldn't get it running. The installation was fine, but when I tried to run the game, it showed a splash screen of need for speed most wanted and then goes to full screen mode with black screen and then crashes back to the desktop.
I have the following system Specs.:
---> AMD AthlonXP 64 3200+
---> ASUS A8N SLI-Premium
---> 1 x XFX-Geforce-6600-GT
---> 1GB ( 2 x 512MB ) DDR400 RAM
---> 2 x Maxtor 80GB SATA ( RAID 0 )
---> 1 x Samsung 80 GB
---> Windows XP SP2
I have got the latest driver for the graphics card as well as the motherboard. I also have the latest DirectX 9.0c. I even reinstalled my entire Windows, still it gives the same problem CTD every time I run NFS-MostWanted.
I installed the game on my friends machine with a lower pc configuration and it worked just fine. He don't even have the latest driver too.
I don't have any problem with any other game like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and LockOn. All other games runs preety well.
Can anybody help me out and get the game running.
Regards,
Sapam

I have got Nvidia Firewall Running. Well, I keep the anitivirus inactive/disabled.
Am not sure if it's causing the CTD. I'll check it out tonight.
Any other suggestions. I just wan't to get it running.
BTW, I never have the problem with NFS-Underground2. That time I had a old pc configuration and have got Norton Internet security running an still works. The problem is with my new pc.
Thanks,
Sapam |

I have got the latest nvidia driver 81.95 ( thats the latest )
Please, someone let me know of any issues I should be taking care of.
Today I am going to try the following dance:
-> Disable The Nvidia Onboard Firewall
===> Run the game
if it don't work again then I'll do ..
-> Uninstall the current nvidia driver 81.95 and install the old one that comes with the Graphics card in the CD.
===> Run the game
Still if this don't work then...
-> I'll uninstall the driver and install the latest Omega Driver ( 16693_7z ) for nVidia
===>Run The game.
And even if this don't work then, I'll wait for someone to help me out.
I really want to play this game.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Regards,
Sapam |

It's sounds like Direct X isn't initialising the full screen properly. I recently had a problem with NFSMW after I had reinstalled windows, with the game on another partition. When I tried to run the game, it told me some Direct X files were missing, even though I had installed 9.0c the game adds some of its own files to the system directory which it didnt have, due to my fresh install. It's one of a few newer games I've noticed that add their own custom Direct X files.
If your other games work fine, i'd try reinstalling the game, maybe it hasn't put these files that it requires in, although it should have gave some sort of error if this was the case.

The problem I have is that I am not getting any error. It simply shows the splashscreen and the goes to full screen mode, then crashes back to the Desktop without any warning. I have tried all combination like:
a) Install All Drivers, DirectX and then The Game.
b) Install The game, then the drivers and DirectX.
c) ReInstall Windows, Install All Drivers and DirectX, and then the Game.
Am feeling really bad now seeing my friends enjoying the game on a much lower spec machines. I sometime feel I should have gone for a PS2 and PS3 in future rather than spending so much on it ( here price are really high ).
If anyone can help me out I'll be really grateful.

I had to reinstall windows last night after some PC issues, and I reinstalled NFSMW.
Would you believe it, the damn game keeps minimizing. Not exactly a CTD but might be a similar cause.
No idea what has changed on my system, or what I have done differently, but now I find that if I try to play the game at a different resolution to my desktop, it minimizes.
So, you might wanna try what now works for me, setting your desktop to 800x600 which appears to be the games default install setting. IF it lets you in, go in change your resultion etc. But, when you exit the options screen, in my case it minized again, i just set my desktop to my new game resolution and now I have no problems. I just hope when if it works for you, you dont CDT again when you exit options, or it wont remember the settings
Suffice to say I will try to find out what exactly is causing this new bug for me, but am just glad to be back in game to be honest, so I'll leave it alone for the meantime.
[EDIT]
My initial thoughts just as the others have mentioned, I have maybe an issue with a driver, due to my new install. I did initaily this time round install the latest drivers, newer than the ones I had.
I've reverted to the old ones, but have a feeling something from the newer ones may be lurking about. Drivercleaner time I guess

It is still not working, giving the same CTD.
I even uninstall my latest driver and went back to my old driver.
Still, I have the same Problem ( CTD ).
I am really confused whats causing this problem.
I'll check out the 800x600 resulution thingy, but am quite doubtful.
Yesterday I have installed a bunch of games like Juiced, Richard Burn rally, etc.. and all worked perfectly fine and no sign of problem. It's only with the NFSMW. It seems to be trying out my patience.. Am very sure that it going to fly out of my window soon if it didn't work out . I have tried all posible options.. even clean reinstall of the entire Windows XP SP2. |
