ok, I have been playing this a bit this afternoon and THIS GAME IS VERY COOL! - if you are a CounterStrike fan, you will love this game. Global Ops is pretty much CS, but with better graphics and sound + a whole lot of other cool extra stuff thrown in.

I picked it up.. I have one gripe.. no way to brighten the game up.. and my monitor is very dark.. it makes playing the game very hard.. I'm going to need some way to brighten the game up in game.. b/c I tried brightening it up through the desktop but that didn't work..
anyone have any answers? In life one must Chill

My opinions of the game:
Great game. It has the themed characters of DoD, but the ability to buy different guns and pick up any weapon. Also the recon / medic aspect is great.
My big complaint. LAG LAG LAG. Hopefully this is just a beta/beta server problem as I have yet to find a decent setrver as far as lag goes. Graphics all seem really dull, nothing is polished.
For brightness I just turn my monitor up all the way
Always works for me.

problem is.. my monitor is all the way up.. it has always been a very dark monitor.. and I've allways had to max out the brightness in most games I played.. or use the desktop controls to do it.. like for Wizardy 8.. no brightness controls in that one.. but lucky for me.. that setting it on the desktop was able to brighten the game.. or I would have stoped playing it long ago.. as I wouldn't have been able to see where I was going..

I have a few games that need brightening, what I usually do is play them at night time. Not a very good solution though.

Barking Dog didn't put a brightness or gamma control on purpose. In CS you are forced to put the gamma on full for the darker areas on maps because everyone has their gamma at full. You can see everything a bit better, but it makes the graphics a bit ugly and the dark maps aren't really dark anymore.
I always have my brightness very high, so I don't have to adjust anything to play GO.
At the moment there are some performance issues with the game. To run a good 12 player server, you need a dedicated 1 GHz PC with a connection with at least 512 kilobit upload. The developers have been working on a patch that decreases the server requirements. It should then be possible to host 2 servers on one machine or to host a non dedicated server (hosting a server and playing the game at the same time). That patch will also fix about 20 bugs.
They're also working on a Linux server application, so that and the patch should make playing online much more enjoyable and there will be much more servers.
I have been playing Global Operations since the private beta test started a little over 4 months ago. At first it didn't really seem like a big step from Counter-Strike, but when you start to get good at the game you find out it's a whole lot different. The specialties, the different (more realistic) map design and the way the weapons handle make the game a very different experience.
People who just start playing Global Operations claim that they need 3 assault rifle clips to kill their opponent. I can kill 2 people with 1 SIG Pro clip. When you fire a gun in GO, your weapon kicks up. Just like in real life, you have to compensate by pulling the gun down. Hitting your target at longer distances becomes easier when you buy a scope and use single shot/3 round burst. I don't even use full auto if my gun has a 3 round burst mode. You can only use a scope when you stand still or walk. Your accuracy is way off when running (especially strafing), so try to avoid shooting while moving. If really want to shoot while moving, pistols, shotguns and sub machine guns are your best choice. Completely avoid full auto while running as it decreases your accuracy even further.
I don't know why I wrote that whole guide to shooting guns in GO, but knowledge is power. Here are my latest statistics: http://membres.lycos.fr/insaneoc/faststats/1.html

well Barney not everyones monitors are the same.. and mine is very dark.. the screen is maxed out.. and in dark missions I can't see anythign.. ohh the outline between the sky, and the land.. and that's it.. literly.. no joking here.. no blowing it out of wack.. I can't see my gun.. or the path.. ppl.. nothing.. its a pitch dark area to me.. they should have put the gama in the game.. and left it to the person to use if they wanted it..
I'm sorry I can't play games that are that dark.. it hurts my eyes.. and I'm not playing in a bright room.. when I play.. I play with all lights off.. always have.. the game can't be fully like real life.. in real life.. u can sense movement when your eyes adjust to the dark.. u can feel things around you.. in a game this isn't possible.. I want gamma control.. and I wont play or support the game any further till they add it.. even in the first training mission to shoot on the range.. I coudln't see the pistol I was suppose to pick up.. it was so dark..
I believe the game will be good.. but again I can't play it till I can brighten the game up.. again.. not everyones set up is the same.. not everyones white point on their monitor is the same..In life one must Chill

I understand your problem. The brightness on my younger brother's monitor doesn't go far enough, either. He has to increase the brightness in Windows to be able to play Quebec. I don't see this as a flaw of Global Operations, but his monitor. I can put my brightness much higher - or lower than I would want to. What use is brightness control when you can only see what's on your screen with brightness at 100%? You can adjust you monitor so you can set the brightness higher, but you would have to open it.
Besides, for the really dark maps there are tactical lights, nightvision and thermal goggles.

Tried setting it through desktop.. upping the brightness through windows.. GO resets my desktop on me.. and that resets the brightness.. I wish it wouldn't and I don't want to open up my 19inch monitor.. and start playign with it.. its my only one.. and I don't have moeny for a new better one..
Again all I want is a gamma bar in game to brighten my screen.. and brightness control would be a big help.. it was in games like AvP2 and other FPS I played that were to dark to see anything..In life one must Chill

one thing i have tried that works in other games is changing your 3d driver. OpenGL alaways plays WAY darker on every game for me. When i cant correct the problem from a in-game software setting or my desktop settings, I switch over to D3D and whalla! I can see! To me, OpenGL works better in some games than it does in others. In Tactical -Ops I use D3D just for this reason. Hope this helps.

I was finaly able to figure a trick out.. I droped my desktop to 1024x768.. the res I play the game at.. then started the game.. then ALT+Tabed oout to the desktop.. then adjusted desktop brighter.. then went back into the game where it stayed.. and was nice and bright.. compared to pitch black
It's still allot to go through to play the game.. I can't leave my desktop at the higher res I use it at.. b/c when going back into the game.. the desktop resizes the screen to the viewing size I chose for the game.. which in turns resets the desktop brightness I chose.. So that is y I lowered it to the res I'm playing the game at..
A few more porblems I noticed.. in training missions.. b/c I always like to play those first to get a feel for the weapons.. and the movement.. well on the sniper stage.. where u shoot targets.. I don't know what is up with the rifle.. b/c it takes 4 shots to destroy a non moving target.. and I'm nailing the shots dead center of the red dots.. Then I have to shoot the moving ones.. I can hit them alreadt.. no porblem.. but I only have 16 rounds to start off with.. so I'm never able to blow away the moving targets.. and end the training mission.. I find this very strange.. I've even just shot each one once.. dead center mass.. and even head shots.. I keep hearing the trainer.."don't take all day" and I don't have any freaking ammo.. and the onyl way to try again is to restart the training mission.. and same thing happens again.. not enough ammo..
Anyone try that training mission? In life one must Chill
