    Problem playing C&C Generals

I just purchased a new Inspiron E1405 and the game C&C Generals. I installed the game but cannot get it to load past the splash screen, it freezes every time. Any suggestions? I'm running DirectX 9.0c.

That recently happened to me and I got it working by repairing the installation.

Based on this information, I'm coming to the conclusion that you haven't even played it.

Back to giving some useful information, you could also uninstall and reinstall it and see if that works.

Wow, you two take jokes well.

As for actual advice (not that my first one wasn't real advice), have you previously installed the game on another computer? It could possibly be a defect or scratch on the disc, however rare that may be.

Also, there may be a conflicting compatibility that a patch may have fixed. But then again EA doesn't patch games so you may be out of luck.

Have you updated the graphics drivers?

    Try running memtest 86 http://www.memtest86.com/

    Have you reinstalled the game?

    Try a repair installation.

    Is the game patched?

More specs on the syste mwould help .

    Wink

I run this game on my 8100 Dell notebook. It currently has a 32 MB NVIDA 2 go card.

    Direct x 9.0c too!

I wonder if you should go to the options in the game and try lowering a lot of the settings to see if that works. Then, increase them until the problem occurs again.

However, I just realized that you can't get it to load past the splash screen. Do you mean after it says " EA GAMES"?

Have you went into dxdiag to see if you have problems? IE: dxdiag typed into run.

Maybe turning off hardware acceleration in the video card properties might help.

I believe I have duplicated your problem.

I recently installed CC Zero on the notebook and forgot that I saved the CC Generals Zero Hour Data folder in My documents from the desktop. Well after I installed I ran the game. The first two screens came up and then a window appeared saying something like, I needed to upgrade Directx or the video card was not compatible.

So I realized that perhaps the CC Generals Zero Hour Data folder had something to do with it, as there are settings in there that reflect my desktop and not this notebook. I deleted the whole folder and restarted the computer. Now the game works fine. I should have just saved the 'save' files from the desktop instead.
