PS3 problems...already!

who would'a thunk that my prediction was right!

Launch day systems for the ps3 already have problems...this time, with backwards compatibility. Seems it's not so friendly to old games afteralll....

Quote:
Confirming earlier information, Sony says that some PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games do not run as they should on new PlayStation 3 systems. The system went on sale in Japan late last week.

PS3 is designed to be fully backwards compatible with Sony's previous two consoles, but some games play without any sound while others completely fail to load. Sony would not say how many games are affected by the error, but Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun originally reported that roughly 200 PS and PS2 games are not working on PS3 consoles.

Sony has suffered numerous problems in the past year, ranging from PS3 production delays and shortages to defective and possibly dangerous laptop computer batteries.

Sony said it is testing games to determine backwards compatibility issues. The company hopes to fix the problem through an online software upgrade. PS3 launches in the United States Friday, with a European launch in March 2007.

love this part...

Quote:
In response to these issues, Sony's PR department pointed out that it, from the start, expected backwards compatibility to be less than 100%. It was also good enough to point out that some people can put up with playing games that lack sound. Regardless of this somewhat arrogant response, an official statement issued at the PlayStation.com site states that Sony will fix the problems with a future system update, and may even resort to individual patches for certain titles. When this will happen has yet to be specified.

How does this not surprise me?

I dont think Sony is focusing on anything and trying to do to many things at once. Especially trying to get a console out when its not ready.

Uhm not like this. Sony blantently lieing in ads, comparing the 360 to the ps3. Major hardware shortages, if you thought the 360 was bad last year, the ps3 is going to top that by far. Promises of genesis and turbografix games being playable. And more and more and more.

Well its very probable that a firmware upgrade will solve some of the issues...

Having backward compatibility with two previous generation of consoles is not a small task..

Only time will tell how it does in the market.
