In 2004, Sony gave the Playstation 2 a newer, thinner look and it looks like the PS3 will ultimately receive the same treatment.
Sony has announced that it is working on cutting down the size of the system’s chips to allow for a smaller overall console. Currently, Playstation 3 uses 90--nm chips and Sony hopes to half the size to a much more compact 45--nm by 2008 or 2009.
By reducing the size of the console’s components, Sony could potentially use the opportunity to give its next--gen system a face lift, much like the PS2 redesign in 2004 or Nintendo’s own DS Lite in 2006.
| Just make sure to keep it cool sony and you may have a console that doesn't look like a blinged out george foreman grill!

I don't know about you but it sounds like a fire hazard.
Think about the two Xbox's and their overheating issues. Now imagine something more powerful than that, and thinner.

What I maen to say is, the PS3 isn't the 360 and does not have the overheating issues associated with the early batches of 360's. My cousin has his PS3 in a cabinet along with all his other home theatre components, and it's fine. If Sony is slimming down the PS3 it is becuase the manufacturing process has matured and they can do it.
