| Sony to introduce 80gb ps3 Quote:
Just days after criticizing Microsoft for introducing the Xbox 360 Elite with its larger hard drive, an FCC filing shows that Sony will be doing something similar to PlayStation 3.
Sony will be increasing the size of PS3's hard drive to 80GB, a 20GB increase over the premium model. With such a relatively small increase, especially when compared to the 100GB increase in the Xbox 360 Elite over the premium 360, this may be a seamless change in the \$600 model rather than a third version.
Sony has not commented on when the change would be made, or even confirmed that the change will be made. Sony senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker said earlier this week that no PlayStation consumer will get "shortchanged at the end of the day, whether they bought one on day one or just yesterday." If the update is slipped into new models, it would be similar to Nintendo adding a backlit screen to later Game Boy Advance systems.
An FCC filing is required when changes are made to a product that uses radio signals. The changed product cannot be sold until the FCC gives its approval. The filing is dated March 2.
| Don't screw the original buyers, s0ny.

no worse than what nintendo will do with the wii. want color? only got white right now. wait a year, you'll get some color selection going and they'll make that drive actually play DVDs.

That's the color of the system, not physical hardware differences.
And personally, I doubt Will will be playing DVD's anytime soon, if ever. |

I thought the Wii played DVDs...? Oh well, everyone has a DVD player anyway. And at the cost of the console you could get a better DVD player for cheaper in comparison...
Oh yeah, 20 gig increase... whoopie. I thought the 360 Elite was a waste of time. It's to encourage people to buy movies and TV, including HD movies. Oh yeah, 3 High defs can fit on your hard drive! Such an accomplishment.
Now, show me a console that has a 500GB or 1TB hard drive and I will be impressed.
Anyway, 80 gigs for a 600 dollar system versus 120 gigs for a 500 dollar system (Is that the price of the Elite?) really is funny.

480 bucks for the 360 elite...
Rumors are flying however that the elite will eventually drop to 400 bucks, and be called the premium, and the current premium will replace the core system for 300 bucks. |

Sony decides to make an upgrade to their system, which in no way will negatively effect current PS3 users, it will only benifit future ones and yet you complain about it? That's like saying Western Digital is screwing their customers over who bought a 500GB hard drive when they introducted a 750GB model. Just becuase the Wii is still using old technology doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't improve their products.

Oh yea, because i've never complained about any other company besides sony doing this.
Sorry, but even though the GBA was wrongly made with two models....it wasn't 500-600 bucks. |

I would like you to explain to me how exactly this screws over their current customers??? What can they not do now that they could have done if this was never released? They are not taking any features away, they are not making games that will only work with the 80GB model. The ONLY difference is that users of the 80GB model will be able to download more content, this in no way screws over their existing customers becuase they can still do everything they did before the 80GB was released. THINK before you post next time. |

Another example would be comparing the 2005 to 2007 Avalon or the 2004 to 2007 F150. (or any same generation of vehicles) They are exactly the same car, its just that each year a new tiny feature is added. Maybe new dashboard lights, or a new paint color, ect... However, in the end, the 2005 Avalon is still the same exact car as the 2007 Avalon (2004 and 2007 F150 as well) and performs exactly the same.
Its the same thing with what Sony and Microsoft are doing, and what Nintendo has done.

Let's say the 80gb version came out in tommorow....PS3 hasn';t even been out 6 monthes. I would be pretty pissed if I had waited online on launch-day to only find out if I had waited a few more monthes, I would basically be getting a free 20gb upgrade for the same price.
That was my point. Quote:

The Wii may still be using old technology graphical technology, but it is literally kicking both Sony and Microsofts ass in sales, isn't it? Just like I said it would a year ago, and just like it will continue to do until MS or Sony get there acts together and lower the prices of their systems.
And i'm fully prepared for the "watch a few years down the line when people get bored of the Wii and ps3/360 skyrocket" bs that will probably get thrown at me. Well guess what ladies and gents, unless you've got a magic crystal ball, then I don't care, because what is happening now isn't going to die off any time soon.
And in the words of Emeril....: BAM!
