have you tried updating your directx by going to www.microsoft.com/directx

if that doesn't work try safe mode and set everything to default and reboot back in normal mode

    Completely pointless post.

Hoopz, have you tried uninstalling Call of Duty and then reinstalling? Make sure you've updated to the latest patch. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. If all else fails, you can always uninstall directx, and then reinstall it.

i'd do what shaw said. uninstall the game - reinstall after having checked for all dx updates.

.......maybe unrelated but another common error with cod2 is that the installer will not run when the dvd autoplays....an error pops up on the taskbar. lots of theories about this. none conclusive. but if you find that does happen when reinstalling simply cancel the the install screen when it pops up then browse to your dvd and run the setup from there.......that works for me. let us know how you get on.

It also might be a graphics card issue. Your graphics card and/or system specs might not be enough to run the game. Please post them if you can.

Those system specs should be good enough for the game, but I do not see your graphics card information anywhere. If you have onboard graphics, that will definitely be your problem. What graphics card do you have?

Yea, I knew it was your system specs from the beginning... The onboard graphics aren't suitable for playing any FPS game, especially not a recent one like COD2. You need to buy a $100+ graphics card if you wanna play games without having the same problem again.

    I recomend CoD the first.

    Lemonade Stand.

    Or Pac-Man.

Like everyone else said your graphics card can't handle the most recent version of directx, and call of duty 2 requires like directx8 or 9. There are alot of good sites to look for decent graphics cards like newegg.com and tigerdirect.com If you don't want a new graphics card then just play call of duty 1.
