COD4 Steam Awaiting Connection Problems

Okay so, I bought COD4 from steam about a week ago, logged on, played a bunch(this was during patch 1.4 i beleive) So, two days ago I try playing again, and I get this "Awaiting Connection..11 ********." And it won't connect to any servers.

Another thing that happens is unless I restart steam every time It won't refresh servers. At the top left it says 344/9054 or whatever, and the number goes up like it is refreshing, but the window remains blank.

So my problem is, my servers won't update #1 and #2 even if they do update i can't connect.

I've already tried changing my timeout counter to 30 seconds, didn't work.

Also, it says my COD4 is updated to 1.5. Help!

Okay, bit of an Update. For some reason "Dedicated Servers" was set to NO. So, now I can see servers.

One problem still remains though, every server I try to join I time out of. Awaiting connection etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if this has something to do with being pingable. Are you running a firewall? For that matter I would check your router's block anonymous Internet requests features. Providing you use a router. I would temporally disable those and see what happens. If this works, then I would put my software firewall back online and allow steam to pass through.

Keep in mind that some motherboards have a built in firewall and the Windows firewall.

Are you sure about the firewall issue? I know that if i forget to turn off my firewall or peer guardian I get the same exact thing.

okay well let's say for the sake of argument(and possibly the issue) that it's a firewall problem.

I'll turn off my windows one, is there any others i don't know about? i don't have mcafee or norton, etc. and i'm running XP not vista

thanks

If you did turn off the windows one, and still can't connect...do you run any other software like an IP blocker? What does your connection look like, are you behind a router? There could be some type of issue like that. (Or I could be delving too deep...)

no IP blockers, no Router. I'm starting to beginning to think this game was just a waste of money.

Although the first day that I played online it was awesome. :P

Should have bought the disk. Still would have had problems i bet. People seem to not be able to install. I have and I even made an image of the disk I run with a virtual drive.

Steam is a pile of steaming sht and that is a fact.
