nfs underground 2
How do we manage the "drag" type of race? the moment i hit the up arrow key, rpm reaches the maximum and engine blows up. I am trying to figure it out but cant so any word of advice will be useful.
thanks.

Drags are totally different than all other races. Even if you like to drive with automatic transmission, you have to shift in the drags. What platform? Playstation? Xbox? Go into the options menus and find out which buttons are shift up and shift down. You don't even have to steer. The game will steer for you but you have to change lanes quickly to avoid other vehicles so you don't crash by simply tapping the thumb stick left or right. When the race starts, hit the gas like usual. Don't bother trying to steer. Watch the shift indicator. it will change color from blue>green>red. You can shift at blue but optimal to shift at green which will say "perfect shift". You can shift in the red but you run the risk of blowing the engine. Don't forget to tap the stick left or right to avoid obstacles. Have fun! Good luck!

No i am playing it on my computer and so i am gonna try using the shift key if thats wut you meant when ii hit the gas. i have a weird feeling about this i think the engines gonna blow up again. IF i go too slow and keep rpm on the green, i always come last atleaaast the engine stays intact. Anyhow ill try it out again and check my options.
thanks

LOL! No, no, no. You need to go into game "OPTIONS" and find out which keyboard key is assigned to shift the transmission up through the gears, not the "Shift" key. Then just press that key as soon as the shift indicator changes from blue to green.
OK, PC, so you are either using the arrow keys or the mouse to steer normally. In a drag rae, DO NOT try to steer, the game will do it for you. Just move left or right to change lanes. Got it??
Ya, driving so slow that you finish the race in 1st gear is definitely gonna place you last and thus defeats the purpose of the race. LOL.
***EDIT-
Haven't you read the game's manual??????????

Trick is, as in the first underground, keep the revs up, not maxxed out when the race starts, then shift the gears in the green when you hit optimum RPM's... (not revved so high you peel out, or so low it takes for ever to get going) also not sure about sequel, but I know in the original if you hit nitrous a bit before the start, you can sometimes get a slight boost in speed.
thing is, depending on what kind of car your driving & how beefed up it is, may take a while to get used to how fast it rev's.
I know for a while in Underground 1, I was using a maxed out Miata, & was used to it, when I started racing/dragging my other car, that I had for drifts, the RX-7, it was a whole nother beast. revved way faster & blew the engine several times before getting it right, even then, a few times I blew the engine halfway down the course, with Nitrous, so even then, you have to be careful.

OK I think I get what ur saying, now. I was assuming that you didn't know to shift. Forgive me for being so presumptuous but your description was some what vague. I didn't even know to shift the very first time I did a drag cuz I always drive automatic. Had to reference the manual.
The engine shouldn't blow until the race starts and you don't shift. Until the green flag drops, you can sit there and burn the engine up all day, still won't blow. Since this is on PC, maybe bad install?? A corrupted file or two?? try reinstalling the game.

Sometimes video games on PC platform will play fine until a certain point and then fail somehow because of a corrupted file or similar reason. Perfect, prime example......I also had Need for Speed, but Need For Speed Most Wanted, on my computer and only during a certain race at a certain point in the course, it would freeze and lock up. I reinstalled the game and problem solved.
