have you tried to uninstall & reinstall the game? updated with latest patches?
Not sure about Vista, but in XP the saved games is in the My Games SubFolder in My Documents Folder... back that up, & after uninstall & reinstall, place it back in, your saved games should be intact.
have you done anything as far as software in the past week or so, that may have caused it? Updates on the PC, or something? |

are you running any plugins or addons for it?
if so disable all but the bare essential files needed to play, main oblivion files, Knights of the nine & Shivering Isles files if you have those too... start the game, see if it still freezes, then exit & pick & choose other files, loading each time, to see if maybe one of the addons are causing the freezes?
what did HP update on your computer during those updates?
also for the official Plugins for the game, there's some sort of issues with downloading or installing with in Windows Vista (any version) as well as Windows XP 64-bit. I remember reading the message on the side bar on the Plugins page the other day when I downloaded one of the new plugins since last year. The Elder Scrolls
Left side of that page mentions something about it... figured I'd link that just in case maybe its related.

Willing to bet it was either the DVD-ROM update (guessing Firmware update), or the Video Card driver update that did it... (leaning towards the latter). |
