Recommend some older games.

I am wanting to go to my local Gamestop and pickup some used PC games to play at work during downtime and am looking for some suggestions.

My laptop specs:

C2D 2ghz
4gb of ram
Built in intel graphics (945 Express Chipset)

So the games need to be a couple years old to be played smoothly.

Here is a list of games I currently play at work (But have already beaten them, which is why I want more)

Call of Duty
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth
Grand Theft Auto III
Diablo II

All of the games above can be played at their highest settings smoothly, so that should give you an idea of what my laptop can handle.

So far I am going to try and look for Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2, Starcraft, and Warcraft III but I would like some other suggestions as well.

Hopefully someone knows of a good FPS that is NOT WW2 based and that the games must have good single player as I don't have internet as work.

Empire Earth is one of the greatest RTS games ever. It was made in 2001 I think, so the graphics are pretty bad, but it's spec'd to run on a P2 with 32MB of RAM I think. Has pretty good campaigns, or you can just play random maps like I do. Empire Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'lll look out for a copy of that when I am at Gamestop. It says it has the playstyle of AoE which I loved playing when I was a kid.

My favorite FPS's of all time are (the original) Unreal Tournament (gold edition) and (the original) Half-Life (and most Steam extensions thereof). Neither are ww2-centric and both have pretty fun no-internet modes. half-life even has a story line. they're both fairly old and run beautifully on any newish old system (like yours and mine).

I say "the original"s because after the success of "the original"s they both went off on tangents that didn't seem nearly as appealing to me (half-life2 has a fantastic gravity gun, though)

You did mention Starcraft though... Simply: Classic.

You could play call of duty 2...probably. Your ram and proc will probably make up for the lack of a video card. Try open source stuff too: Open arena, nexuiz, Sauerbraten.
For strategies I'd go for generals and generals zero hour which i just got back into. They have great mods for it.

I'll also download the Serious Sam 2 demo too see how well it will play on my laptop and maybe pick it up as well.

I have UT2K3 and the single player mode is horrible, I don't think the original UT will be any better.

I've also beaten HL and HL2 several times over the years. I wish I had internet connectivity so that I could play some rounds of CS 1.6 at work.

As for the emulators, I find it to much of a hassle just trying to find working ROMs that aren't littered with bugs.
