Can't remember the specs required off hand - but any of the games that used the engine from Duke Nukem 3D are great "oldies"
For games - Of course the one I mentioned: Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood (The original one only).
The original Postal (Sequal was horrible IMO, but first was good).
Crusader, No Remorse
Star Control
Command and Conquer (Again, the original was the best in the series IMO).
X-Wing and/or Tie-Fighter
Just to name a couple good PC games from the mid 90s.

Star craft, warcraft.

Half Life
Rainbow Six
Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
Delta Force 1 & 2
Need 4 Speed 1 & 2
Most of the Wing Commander Series starting with WC III: Heart of the Tiger (an emphasis on WC: Prophecy, it came out in 97, the other two are several years earlier)
Freespace & Freespace 2 (the latter's game engine is still to this day considered by many modding communities & some independent game developers to be one of the best space combat sim engines around, though its graphics are quite dated)
Star Wars X-wing Alliance (fun space combat sequel to the X-wing series)
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II with the Mysteries of the Sith expansion
Star Trek Starfleet Academy

Steel Panthers | On the same vain as kings quest ... Hero's Quest is an amazing line of games. It is a shame that games that make you think, challenge you with puzzles and are rewarding beyond intrinsic values are going away. I highly recommend you check out this series. Plan on spending a great deal of time if you plan on doing more then just rushing through the game.
Cheers! |

Some of these games can be found for free on the web. Matrix Games used to made some available for download.
