Closest I have come is NFS: Porsche Unleashed. I have not played Test Drive: Lemans but it looks good as well. I think EA is coming out with another new game soon.

Well, if you're just looking to play the game on pc there is a ps2 emulator here:http://www.psxfanatics.com/
They have more emulators for psx1 also. I believe you need a dvd drive for ps2 emulator. I haven't tried it myself though so I'm not sure how great it is. I have tried a psx1 emulator and it worked really well so I'd expect the same.
You still need to buy the game in this case, just allows you to play it on pc instead of ps2, so you can adjust graphics and what not.

You could try NFS: High Stakes as well.
PU was the 5th release, and High Stakes was the 4th, but I prefer High stakes, basically because theres only so many Porsches you can take before wanting to take the lamborghini for a spin. Porsche Unleashed is all porsches (when I say "all", i mean "only", but they also have pretty much every porsche ever made in there).
PU's cars are much more customizable than HS's. HS just has upgrade level one, two, and three, but they have a nicer variety of cars. Both have superb graphics.
I was also hooked on GT2 before my Playstation broke. I came very close to buying a PS2 for just GT3. I don't think the PC has anything that comes close at all, but the NFS series has a similar engine to it as the simulation mode. NFS kills GT2 in graphics though. Not sure about GT3, but I think I could say it's either ranks up there with it, or is superior if you got the resolution high enough.

There will be PRO RACE DRIVER this year. I hope it can deliver what it promises.
I read NFS6 is also on the way.

Isn't NFS6 supposed to be all Ferrari's?? Not sure, just a guess. Hope they can add more gaming variety than traditional racing. Perhaps a touch of GTA3 would be nice?
Or a ride and shooter in one, lamborgs' with machine guns on top of the car and such
It really has been a LONG time since EA came out with a next gen NFS game.
What other interesting PC racers are coming soon? As far as racing games go, consoles have the most support for it. Rarely a worthy racing title for the PC.

The closest game to GTA3 that I've played is GT Interactive's "Driver".
It's mission based, and there's plenty of cops to outrun...

good one aero! driver is a lot different than gt3 though, I think you're thinking of grand theft auto 3 not gran turismo 3. Driver is a great game though, I was more addicted to that than gt2 but that's just me.

I hope NFS 6 has some keekahs Hot Pursuit mode......I tell yah, that's the only thing I like about the series

NFS 5 looked really good, nice game models......but ONLY Porsches and NO Hot Pursuit mode......so NFS 3 and 4 was my domain.

EA's old Sports Car GT is worth a look, you may find it in bargain bins or as part of compilations for a small price. The cars are BMW M3, 911, Panoz, Lister etc, so not as varied as GT3, but you can buy mods and tweak settings etc.
Failing that, I repeat what has been said about NFS5, or run the older PS GT2 on an emulator, looks and plays fine

I agree, Sports Car GT was underestimated and overlooked.
It's a great driving game.
