need for speed shift
hi guys forgive me if this is not allowed but i am having some probs with need for speed shift,
i downloaded a torrent of the afore mentioned game to see if it would run on my system, but i am only getting 7fps when in races which makes the cars totaly undriveable, according to canurunit.com my system only fails on the operating system which is windows 7 even though it says that the game runs on windows 7,
i will purchase the game if i can get better fps cos i love the need for speed games,
what i would like to know is, is my frame rate due to the fact that i am trying to run a cracked version or will i experience the same frame rate if i buy the game
my spec is
windows 7 rc x64
C2D e6550 2.33ghz (not oc'd)
4gb ddr2 667
msi p43 neo f mobo
ati radeon hd2600 pro
i also tried a cracked version of wolfenstein and got between 50 and 60fps during gameplay so i bought that and thats been running with no problems whatsoever
can anybody tell me why my fps is so low on need for speed
thanks

technically its against policy to discuss this stuff, since you are referring to cracked illegal copies of the games.
but sounds like maybe an issue with Windows 7 or the other thing is the 2600 Pro isn't exactly a good midrange card, its bottom of the barrel for a more "recent" gaming card. performs lower than an 8600GT/GTS...
and since the 8600GT/GTS cards were around or just a bit above a Geforce 7600GT with DX 9 games, kind of says where the 2600 Pro is.
system requirements list an X1800 or 7800GT or better, so I'd suspect the video card is holding you back.
on my old AMD AM2 X2 system I ran my 2600 Pro, and at 1024x768 games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter were just barely doing 25-30 fps with most settings set to medium, and that game is several years old now.
haven't tried any NFS games for a while (last I tried was Pro Street and it was a POS), but this one looks like it might be half way decent.
though I loved and miss my NFS 2, Hot Pursuit and High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed games of yester-decade

yeah i usually d/load a crack version to see if i can run it before i go and buy it, seeing as you cant return games to the store once you have installed them, saves money that way,
what gfx card would you recommend for a budget of around £100, would like to spend less obviously but that is as much as i can afford
thanks

assuming it is the video card that's giving the troubles. I'd look at least at a Geforce 9600 GSO or GT model, or Radeon 4670.
either of these should be a decent step up, bottom rung mid range cards technically speaking.
for bare minimum, at least a Geforce 9500GT or Radeon 4650. these two are probably only a step up from the 2600 Pro.
assuming your Power Supply can handle it
9600GT, Radeon 4670
assuming your Power Supply can handle them and your case has the room for them
9800GT/GTS 250, Radeon 4850
or if you can snag a Geforce GTX 260 for a sweet deal over there, one of those would have you set for a year or two at least or more depending on the games your running.
but its odd that Wolfenstein would run so good on the card you have now and NFS Shift won't, I'd think NFS would be less demanding.
there's got to be something missing, i read posts on other sites while searching of people having similar troubles but for every one that was having troubles seems like 50 or more had no problems with win7 and NFS Shift.
so has to be something else.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

i think that nfs is more demanding, graphically its far superior to any of the older need for speed games, its even better than the not so old nfs undercover which i ran quite well,
psu should be good its a storm ice 650watt and it has the 6 pin gfx card connector, according to the antec website which calculates how much wattage you need from a psu i currently only need 350watt so i cant see any gpu using 300watts on its own
edit: i adjusted the settings in nfs and and got between 15 and 20fps at 1280 x 1024 res but could only have the game running in a window and not full screen, will try some lower res for now and see what i can come up withLast edited by glendalf81; September 27th, 2009 at 06:57 AM.

We do not support piracy nor do we provide technical support for games that have been pirated.
