I see it's on a really good sale today and the one thing I have noticed about my new blu ray player/PS3 is that it needs to be turned on to charge the remote through USB. I dont see where NewEgg lists any specs about charging or else I might have been able to figure it out.

It may work but charging the PS3 controllers are tricky, the don't usually take to USB chargers like the one you linked they usually go through a driver based connect either with the PS3 or to a computer.
But there are those stand alone chargers for the controllers that are nothing more then what you posted so you really have to buy it and try it.
I've tried charging my controllers with 3 different phone chargers (razr, blackberry, universal usb charger) those didn't work.
