Modern Warfare 2: Who Bought It?
Who picked it up, and for what system? One of my friend's got it for X360, he was super-pissed about the change to party chat. We both agreed that the storyline is pitiful-old-man-balls. IIJM, or is the 360 starting to show some age? TBH, the graphics are a bit on the sucky side. Overall, it's well-polished, but the textures are startin' to look shady. Gawd, there's a crap ton of weapons!!!
Anyone on the PC side having trouble with Steam or with bad discs?Good job, friend-of-friends!

My bro got his today, with the cheap ass NVG's (all plastic housing, cheap plastic that feels like it will crack if dropped), they do work, but looking through them, they kind of feel like a miniaturized Outdoor IR Night camera, you can switch between regular black/white and then there is the green color filter. and another setting I think.
as my bro said, they are no where near Military grade, even for Gen 1 NVG, but he and a few of his friends got the same version of the game, so their going to use their NVG's for some night time Airsoft games LOL.
as to the game, he was playing single player and having fun with it. especially thought the one level where your undercover and mowing down unarmed civilians was fun...
though seemed kind of odd for him to like that, since he was over in Iraq several times, twice in Baghdad in the last 3 years.
anyways, that one scene/level alone is going to stir up more controversy than the PC versions shortcomings.

granted its a game, and granted games like GTA let you do similar things, but not nearly as graphic and realism as this one. GTA's killing of people is almost comical in a dark humor kind of way. but this might be a bit over the top, had it been armed terrorists or hordes of zombies you were hosing down, might be a bit different, but even I'm a bit hesitant on whether I would even enjoy playing this level... especially since at the end your character gets blown away anyways after all that senseless killing.
as to the bad discs, yeah I have heard of a couple who are having troubles with it too.
but my bro was playing the game offline tonight, mainly to avoid getting a ton of game invites on LIVE.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

LOL, thats good, watched it first, cracking up, then just showed my bro (had him pause MW2 to watch this LOL), he was cracking up pretty good too, since a lot of that he could "relate" to while serving over in Iraq and Saudi Arabia LOL.

I picked up the 360 version yesterday. Any other day I would have gotten the pc version, but my brothers are in cali (I'm in Mass), and they only have an xbox.
Finished the single player today. Kinda short (I'd say about 6 hours play time), lots of gun types, I think it would have been cool to before to pick your weapons before the missions, but whatever.
The game seems to really go for shock value. I think 4 or 5 of the characters you play die in the story, makes having continuity a bit tough, but I suppose it's meant to make it feel more dramatic.
Multiplayer feels identical to cod4. Same graphics, same tactics, different maps, some different guns. But hey, haven't tried the co-op, probably give that a try this weekend.Last edited by thephilosophizer; November 11th, 2009 at 11:23 PM.

I'm not much of a CoD guy but I kinda like this one. I guess I'm just too used to Quake 4 (old by now I know). So is Crysis still the most demanding game?

Yeah I think so. COD hasn't made any leaps or bounds as far as graphics, they focused more on gameplay and storyline.
I've been kinda getting the feeling lately that video game graphics are starting to plateau. Crysis really is still one of the most gpu intense games out there, and it's been around for awhile.
And on top of that, the 360, and the PS3 are going to be around for awhile to come, so developers aren't really going to be able to go too much farther because their preference for the most part is for multi-platform development, so they are going to be limited to the weakest link, which seems to be the xbox now (for a while it was the PS3, but I understand that that was because no one knew how to program for for it the right way).Reason obeys itself; and ignorance does whatever is dictated to it.

Boo I die too much. I got too used to halo where I could take an entire clip of a machine gun and still live, lol.

There's a learning curve. I don't know if I like halo better or not, though halo is kinda played out.
Cod is really fast paced, I do like halo for being a little slower, which allows for a bit more strategy as opposed to reflexes.Reason obeys itself; and ignorance does whatever is dictated to it.

Could of said its something like "Sum Of All Fears" Meets "Red Dawn" if that tells you anything?
its not bad, but leaves open for a sequel is all I will say on the story.
The Music is pretty good during some levels, invokes that desperation feeling when playing the last few levels of the game. but does seem kind of off with the Classical sounding music (think normal movie like theme music), with the heavy action going on.
later on my bro was having fun kicking some ass in Multiplayer. fragged one dude just as he got shot, was funny, another time grabbed the laptop and was able to control the Predator UAV missile right down on one guy that was on a killing spree mowing down his team LOL...
another time he grabbed the automated gun drone and set it up right at a choke point nailing a ton of the enemy team, etc etc, was some pretty funny moments there.
anyways, aside from the downfalls of the game, shock value, it could be worse, single player, like you mentioned if it was offered for $20, I'd look into buying it, but just don't think Multiplayer is really all its cracked up to be, as was said, its too much like COD 4, and WAW wasn't much of an improvement either.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

The 360 is four years old now and is starting to show some age. PS3's got a bit more in it thanks to the power, but in another year it'll max out, IMO. Next gen's will probably drop in 2011-2012.
PC still has plenty of room for improvement. DX11 just dropped.
That's a very good sum-up!Could of said its something like "Sum Of All Fears" Meets "Red Dawn" if that tells you anything?Good job, friend-of-friends!

They are not dropping a new console that soon. Both Microsoft and Sony have said this is a long term gen, i would exepect that they will make this gen of console last until at least 2014-15. Until HD tv's settle out and stop fluctuating the market, ie. they settle down with a "standard" format instead of coming out with a new one every damn year ... first it was 1080p/60hz, then 1080p/120hz and now they have 1080p/240hz! Now we have LED based TVs even! Whats next!?
Once this settles down, hardware then can be designed with this "standard" in mind. Microsoft is moving away from the "gaming platform" mentality and going towards the full home theater and entertainment center mindset that is pushing for things like twitter, facebook and pandora? off your dashboard. If the crazy rumors about BluRay coming to Xbox are true, then they have even more push towards being your one stop shop. Sony on the other had is poised as the value leader on the BlyRay angle except for the new Backup issue that is now finally coming to the foreground. I would expect that the closest we are going to see is some hardware refreshes as they continue to hammer out issues with the hardware, die shrinks and replacing some parts. Not everyone can push out hardware like its a Gameboy/DS.

I got it the day it came out for PC. I'm so mad about there being no dedicated servers, but otherwise it's a lot of fun. Way more fast-paced than the previous games IMHO
