I received Team Fortress 2 as a gift on steam I started to download and then I had a look how much room I had left on my partition which was 6gb and the game is 13gb so i paused the download and shutdown my computer the next day I logged back in and team fortress 2 was missing?

Have you tried to find the game on STEAM again to re-download it?

You sure it was a gift and not just an invitation to the free weekend that it was available for?

Ahhhh yes TF2 just had a free weekend so it would appear in steam showing how long left it will last. As you never fully downloaded it will just disappear rather than going to pre-load status.
