Hardware acceleration for DirectX Direct3D 10 relies upon the WDDM driver model, which is not available via the Windows XP hardware abstraction layer.

If you want DX10, you are looking at upgrading to Vista or Windows 7.

    Read here:

Alky Project (DX 10 for XP)

    In particular:

Look at the source code. Last I knew, there are a few OpenGL calls in the library for extremely basic 3D operations. No shaders, no multitexturing, no vertex buffer, no index buffer, etc. You might get it to software render a custom coded "Hello World"-style basic 3D app using only a few rudimentary Direct3D calls.

You can install the libraries, and perhaps even get them to return a version string if called. It is something else to actually run any appreciable level of code, especially with hardware acceleration.

the only thing different I noticed after installing that socalled DX10 for XP, was that when I tried to install games, it would crap out, saying it needed dx9, and uninstalling dx10 is a pain, I wouldn't do it ever again.
