gta3 installation error w/ Win Xp Pro

I have an AMP XP 1700+ with a GeForce 4 Ti4600 AND 512 ddR Ram. When I put in the gta3 installation cd the language screen comes up right, so I pick "english" and click "ok". RIGHT After that I get this error that says "An installation support file could not be installed. The specified module could not be found." What is that all about?
Just to add... I installed dx8.1(the 200 version) from the gta3 cd first. And I know it's not a bad cd because it works on a nother persons computer thats not even half as good as mine.

Welcome to TechIMO, that problem has not occured on mine, but when I tried backing up the CD's that happened, is that so with yours?

I got the same issues here... Genuine copy of the game. windows XP SP2, Athlon XP 1.8

Installs on the wife's PC ok.

Im wondering if the installation is looking for D: as the root of the install... as my CD-Rom is currently G:
