Which Battlefield game to buy?
Hey
Just got my triple monitor set up working and want to start doing a bit of gaming inbetween work. Ive played battlefield vietnam on pc years ago and loved it and played battlefield bad company 2 on ps3 and it was ok but didnt seem as fun. Battlefield 3 is months away and can't wait.
Anyway just want to know which is best to get for pc? I was thinking either
battlefield 2
battlefield 2142
battlefield: bad company 2 (altho seemed dissapointed on ps3 maybe because it was console)
or maybe try and find out vietnam copy in loft?
There all pretty cheap but don't see point in buying all, just want to know which everyone finds best? Oh am playing on thee screens if that makes difference to any?

Well I imagine getting Vietnam to work in eyefinity/surround will be a pain...
I highly recommend BC2... Online for 2142 was pretty dead last time I played, and B2 is pretty old and outdated and I also believe will be difficult to get working in eyefinity/surround.
I hope you have a good setup as BC2 is quite a demanding game, even more so running eyefinity/surround.I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

I've given up on the Battlefield games, their just as bad as many of the Call Of Duty Games now days, the amount of hackers, and cheaters in the games, ruins the fun. The fact you need to "earn" you freaking weapon kits is stupid, nothing like the original 1942 and Vietnam games where you had full access from the get go, completely leveling the playing field for players, unlike now.
They've gotten to arcade like in recent years, and I don't expect BF3 to be any better, other than the visuals.
Games like ArmA, ArmA 2, Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising and a few others on the other hand, have maintained their Realism levels, and not gone down this route yet with requiring their players to EARN their weapons kits, though I know with ArmA 2, there are SOOOO many different ways to set up servers, and maps/missions, that some times you do need to earn access to weapons, vehicles, armor, aircraft, etc, before you can use them, but its ONLY for that map/mission, so you could go to another server set up differently and have full access.
downside to ArmA 2 is it is DirectX 9 only, runs on Vista/7 fine, but uses NO DX10/11 or PhysX or anything.
and still has many unfixed bugs, but current state is still better than most BF games upon initial release LOL.
ArmA 2 isn't as popular, primarily as its more of a Sim than a Game, but looking at the server browser right now, there's 544 servers and 725 players currently on.
I've seen as many as over 1000 servers before, and well over 1500-2000 players on as well.
But out of the 3 listed in your post, I'd also have to recommend BC2 and its add on Vietnam over the others.
2142 was a good idea in concept, but it ended up being poorly marketed and in all honesty should of been sold as a separate game (franchise and improved upon). As it kind of was a Battletech like Battlefield game more than anything.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I'd go with BF2 and this mod:Allied Intent Xtended Website : The premiere coop and single player mod for battlefield 2! Home requires the 1.5 patch. I'd also get bad company 2. It is a awesome game and you can blow up buildings with your gun.
With BF2, depending on the server you can have full unlocks. So just becuse the game is setup where you have to earn kits, it doesn't matter all that much. I'm sure youu can find a hack to give you all your wepons. Here is how to unlock all kits for single player:Here is a way to unlock all weapons in (BF2) SP without downloading - Battlefield 2 - Neoseeker Forums
Good luck!

Just been looking and battlefield bad company 2 also has vietnam expansion pack to so il decide when i go in to a shop and see what they have in.
I hadn't heard of ArmA before and looking at it it seems like battfield but more tatical which is a good thing so i might invest in that aswell.
Thats the thing I don't like about PC gaming people can cheat so easily where as xbox its a lot better.

Trust me, ArmA 2 and Battlefield aren't even in the same league. Like I mentioned its more of a Sim like game than the Battlefield/COD type games.
Countless Youtube videos of the game, gameplay, and mods for it: YouTube - ‪ArmA 2‬‏
it does have a steep learning curve for controls than BF games. but once you get the basics down, it can be a lot of fun.
If you do grab ArmA 2, grab the ArmA 2: Combined Operations version that has ArmA 2 and its Stand Alone Expansion Operation Arrowhead, I think Walmart still sells it for $30. ArmA 3 is currently in development as well.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Letting us know your specs and how you have it setup might help...

You need to enable/setup eyefinity, hopefully you have a display port on one of your monitors.

Your best bet is BF Bad Company2.
There is a BF3 coming out in December or whenever they get their act together.
BF2 (on line) doesn't have all that many maps.
I don't play BFVN, since BFBC2 keeps me busy.Last edited by Chuckiechan; June 7th, 2011 at 09:27 AM.

Firstly I have not had a chance to mess with multi monitor setups, also last ati card I had was an x1600 pro (im sure things have changed since then).
It should be an option in the ccc, are these active display ports?
I would have a read on the internets about the best way to setting it up rather than me asking...I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

also just to let you know, just because you have 3 displays, doesn't mean you HAVE to use them to play these games, most of these games were not designed for triple display as their main means of display, dual and triple display was an extra feature built in.
if you can't get it to work in triple display, then oh well... just play it in single display.
I can guarantee triple display gamers are still a VERY VERY small minority compared to single display users.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I would check with EA.com - Entertainment Arts - to see if they support multiple displays. A lot of times they won't to keep the playing field level.
It's not in their interest to lose market share to unlimited budget players. That is not what the game is about.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

Just how much FOV do you have? 360 degrees? Or zooming capability that allows head shots with pistols at 300 meters...
I not familiar with multiple monitors in BFBC2 at all.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

This will give you an idea....
It goes to single screen near the end...

It appears to be ~ 180 degrees FOV.
I spend a lot of time getting into position to knife snipers, so It's good to know what the max FOV I'm likely to run into is....Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!
