I didn't get it yet. I'm not decided either. I really love the idea of COD Elite. I was sort of hoping that I could use it w/ my Black Ops but when I load her up on the 360 it says that I need COD:MW3. Not cool. And to be fair I've been reading a lot of negative reviews of MW3... I'm new to Modern Warfare but many tell me to start with MW2. The game play looks sick though, the whole urban battlefield setting is exactly what I'd like to play in but I'm not fully willing to shell out that kind of cash (did that once for COD:Black Ops and all those expansions for it), want my next big purchase to be something very unique and special.
For example I was all hyped over Homefront and then that pretty much tanked!! So I'm very skeptical of wartime games lately.
Looks like I'm going to have to rent it on GF first, see if I like it then take it from there.
GZ, maybe you know. MW3 is the only game on Elite or is that just a base requirement and it then saves all your COD-type-game scores in there? Finding the literature on it a bit unclear but then again it's brand new. I was kind of hoping it was a hub for all your COD activity across multiple games.“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon

What negative reviews have you read?

COD:Black Ops seemed to own my brain.

The negative reviews I read were from players over at GF... which makes little sense I know since the game hasn't been out long but a lot of people seem to be reviewing it. *Shrugs* Not saying I vouch for the accuracy much, all speculation at this point as far as I'm concerned.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review on Xbox 360 - GameSpot.com (Basically saying like all the rest of the COD series, nothing "stand out" but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, right? Then look on the user review side at all the negative scores...)
I did see that IGN though, I do weight IGN highly (USUALLY I agree w/ the reviews I read there). So dunno... may have to let the dust settle enough to decide for sure (after more people play and review it that is).
Oh and I love Black Ops too. Have you noticed less and less nuke town since when the game was first released? Are they trying to nerf that? See that's why I'm a little hopeful that MW3 gets urban fighting right. It just felt so good to flash bang rooms... even if nuke town was... well a fake town. XD (They did add the new map - the drive in - which they say is very much like nuke town but I don't like it as much... but anyway since this is a MW3 thread I'll shut up on that note).
I am really hoping the urban combat in MW3 is realistic. I really enjoyed Crysis 2's city gun fights. Would have liked it better if those cities were heavily populated... oh well. Imagine the resources needed to do that though. If anyone does get this game please let me know how these urban engagements play out.Last edited by Interrupt; November 8th, 2011 at 12:45 PM.

I'm wondering if muliplayer is the same as MW2 where its matchmaking which kinda sucks if you want to play with specific friends.

No, I was never a fan. War games don't have much of an appeal for me though. BF3 looks interesting but last time I bought a battlefield game I couldn't get into it. :/
Cute

I won't be picking it up anytime soon. It's just more of the same. And according to MetaCritic, it looks like gamers have finally woken up to that fact (current userscore = 2.8 of 10).
Good job, friend-of-friends!

Though skimming through a lot of those reviews revealed a lot of fanboys and downright childish reviews, the fact remains that they are simply milking the CoD name and will inevitably ruin it.
There are reasons games like Zelda or the The Elder Scrolls series come out once every few years, to guarantee a fresh, polished experience. Sure Cod 4: MW was a breath of fresh air in the stale shooter market at the time (2007) however the constant milking of it after it's rather jaw dropping success never appealed to me.
I've yet to buy a CoD after Cod 4 : MW as everything there after has been the same, new guns and new maps. More or less large expansion packs that they have no right selling at 60 bucks a pop.Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

same exact thing here. Have COD4:MW, but not one since. I did download and try the World At War Beta before it went retail, but you only had a couple maps to try.
A friend suggested it for at least for the Zombie killing mode where you can pair up with friends, but aside from that its not worth it.
I watched my bro play through MW2 when he was at home on leave a year or two ago, when it came out, spent his entire time playing 360 practically.
though graphics looked good, the gameplay seemed more of the same.
I was expecting something different with Black Ops, but after I learned from friends playing that what it was like, the amount of glitches and other stupid stuff, I said no to it.
even now days, the Battlefield series is teetering on the edge of being milked, not as much as COD is, but when you think about it, over the years, COD, MOH, Red Faction and many others, BF series isn't quite there yet, but its getting close, Partial BF 1942 remake for the consoles that never came to PC despite constantly being promised and was a slap in the face since the original game was made for PC and debuted on PC... Battlefield Heroes, Bad Company 2, Vietnam addon/conversion for BC2, BF Online, BF3, all in the last 2 years or less.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Game stores by me sell MW and, sometimes, MW2 for a pretty good price so I'm not sure whether or not to start my MW career there or over with the new MW. The only COD game I've ever played was Black Ops so to me it was amazing (in fact, I still think it's amazing! I've just beat the game on all modes now and have Prestige 2 atm in multiplayer so it seems a bit repetitive). To be frank my attraction to MW (mainly because I haven't played it) is really the modern weaponry.
I want to be able to call air support and strategically place where it hits. I've tried Bad Company and loved it (own it) but the multiplayer BC lacks that modern warfare-feel, you know? I have yet to try BC2. I DID love the futuristic Battlefield on PC (name escapes me) which I hear a lot of people didn't like.
So yeah... still very much on the fence and trying to find a REALLY great quality/graphics modern war time shooter with all the right tools of the trade, guns, weapons, air support, etc. for the 360 w/ a great multiplayer community.Last edited by Interrupt; November 10th, 2011 at 01:15 PM.

I may pick up MW3 if I can find it dirt cheap somewhere, got a friend who claims the single & Coop mode kicks butt, so may give it a try, but he also wants me to download it for "free" if I find it anywhere, he should know by now, I don't do that. Only time I did that was for the old Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition DOS based game LOL, couldn't find it anywhere to buy, so...
but that was years ago.
Not gonna really find something like that on console. PC, if your willing to overlook some of the bugs, complex keyboard layout/controls, and not as "nice" graphics as BF3 and the like, the ArmA 2 series is where its at for all that. Though me and my ArmA 2 buddies really haven't played much lately, since many of them found themselves floating off to other Military Shooters that were "easier" and "better" (COD Black Ops, BF3, BFBC2, HomeFront, etc, which aren't "easier" but less Sim like in nature)I want to be able to call air support and strategically place where it hits. I've tried Bad Company and loved it (own it) but the multiplayer BC lacks that modern warfare-feel, you know? I have yet to try BC2. I believe your referring to Battlefield 2142

But If I find MW3 on sale, say on steam for 50% off or something I may give it a try, but no guarantee's.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Shy,
Wow this Arma2 is exactly what I was looking for (from what I can see on the internet). I'll be sure to keep an eye peeled when I get to the game store. Thank you so much, you have no idea how long I've been looking for a shooter like this. Looks very realistic as far as depth is concerned and that's what I'm into. I'm wondering if my current rig will take it but I think it will (Crysis 2 does run on it now that you've helped me with the upgrade... sometimes it can snag a bit while other games like Dead Island run flawless). By the looks of it Arma2 will run.“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon

ArmA 2 is very CPU intensive, along with GPU, but really benefits from a fast Dual core or better.
If you get that game, pick up the ArmA 2 Combined Operations version, has the original plus the Operation Arrowhead Standalone expansion. Which actually runs a bit better than the original. Last time I looked it was $30 at Walmart, they also have the Reinforcements Pack, which is like $20 or so, but thats just a small addon and doesn't really add much to the game, most of those addons you can get off of Steam for pretty cheap.
plus there's about a half dozen or so Updates for both that bring it to most current version. and some of them aren't exactly small either.
Then you'll need and want to download some of the community mods and addon's, most servers use a lot of these like the CBA (Community Base Addons), ACE mod, ACE 2 Mod, etc.
if and when you get the game, PM me, I can help you set it up, and configure it if needed.
I run the game at stock settings with 1920x1080 res and depending on the map and whats happening I can get as high as 60fps with my current i7 920/GTX 470 setup, but its not uncommon for maps to hover around in the low 20's sometimes.
there's also visual enhancement mods as well.
Its almost like the Microsoft Flight Sim version of Military FPS shooters, with the amount of customization and other stuff you can do. and is actually classified as a Sim.
There's even a Teamspeak 3 addon that works with the game and one of the mods, that depending on what is going on in the game, makes TS audio sound like real radio transmissions, and even allows for Audio/Radio to break up or cut out in certain situations. also a few clans out there that take the game so seriously you'd think you were in the real military.
last I heard. ArmA 3 was claimed to be released sometime next year, but knowing Bohemia Interactive, I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed back another 6 months LOL. just in case it was to be released next year, besides Battlefield 3, Skyrim and a couple other games, its one of the reasons I was upgrading my PC to a faster CPU and better GPU setup.Last edited by ShyguyXPC; November 12th, 2011 at 01:19 PM.

have no idea what these tokens are, but I would venture to guess your SOL as far as getting them back, if they are some sort of "Currency" in the game to buy/obtain new & better items.

here you can see a comparison of the 7850 vs GTX 570 (GTX 560 Ti 448 is reduced spec 570, so the 448 Core would be close to the 7850 in performance, if not just behind it a hair): AnandTech |...
