Star Wars the Old Republic MMO
I heard about this early on and it caught my interest a bit. Does anyone else plan on giving this a try? I tried Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out back in the summer of 03. I stuck with it for 5 years and then decided it wasn't the same game or community so I ended my subscription.
Is anyone else considering giving this a shot? I am a bit fearful to get involved with MMO's again - last time they ended up consuming most of my time. I am hoping that a few more years under my belt will help me manage my time better
By the way, does anyone know what the payment plan for this game will be (if there is any)? I've been reading different things leading up to the release.
Edit: Sorry didn't realize there was a gaming forum - I'm new here. Won't make that mistake again

Do I live in an igloo made of frozen urine?
No?
Then why didn't I hear about this! I love KOTOR and all those games. I'm a big SW fan and was greatly disappointed in the mess that happened with the ill designed Galaxies. I wanted more from that game. I'm really looking forward to this! It's an MMO you all say? I couldn't possibly afford another monthly charge but maybe I'll give it a test run. Going to look it up when I get home from work.“Arguing with anonymous strangers on the Internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be—or to be indistinguishable from—self-righteous sixteen-year-olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.” ― Cryptonomicon

PS: ordered the CE from amazon and got oddly enough a preorder email so im installing the client now and hope to play for 15-20 minutes before the server resets tonight and they change the authorization to requiring the key from the game.

I'm trying to look for like a trial or something... is there any sort of test/trial run I can do? That website has such little info.

nope. they are not even offering guest passes for retail boxes! Have to bite the bullet and buy the game or settle for game play footage.

Skyrim first, and then this one..., I was a fan of KOTOR, until my brother beat the damn thing for me, and told me how it ended. Bought it for myself on Xbox back in the day, worked for most of that week and intended on playing it over the weekend, and he beat it while I was working... I never did get around to buying KOTOR 2.
was a fan of SW Galaxies also, but by time I was going to buy it finally, they had ruined it with all the updates and redesign of the way the game was played.
I've never ever really stuck with an MMO game before, played for a while, then got boring, or few people I played with we could never meet up at same times, so ended up being once a week for me, and the rest were playing all week long at odd times it seemed (they always had more time than I did).i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Currently playing an Imperial Agent specialized as an Operative. Its AMAZING.
Just hit 17, playing PVP with my higher level friends, got my ship and romping through the galaxy ... OMG. So much fun.

SWTOR is a turd...at least in my opinion. The game play is awkward, the space combat is annoying and silly. I want real space combat...not Star Fox. The first 15 levels or so are too limited on the world you start. No open world...just follow this one and only path to your quest area.

the first 10 levels are your newbie planet to teach you fundamentals of the game. If you hit level 15 and still on your starter planet, you did something wrong. Most people are on to the next planet by level 10ish.
Space combat is on rails which isnt "true space combat" but your fighter also starts to burn and you blow things up. If you want want real physics of space, you would never see fire, things wouldnt blow up like in the movies and frankly we have no science that proves our bodies can handle faster than light travel since we can barely tolerate the speed of sound.
As for a limited path, every MMO i have ever played has always been "pathed" so you move to the next area when you level. Sure you could venture to other areas sooner, but your not making it passed the door. Same applies to SWTOR as around level 13ish you are given your fighter and free to roam the galaxy. The game actually has built in Bonus missions available once you clear your class quests on a planet to give you additional options to stay or come back later as some are for higher level missions.
Leveling isnt difficult for the first 20ish levels but starts the typical decline around 25. I flew through the first 25 and now its a bit tougher as the missions are more in depth and involved to complete.
PVP is limited at this point as you have a capture and hold game and Hut Ball. Both get repetative but the rewards are AMAZING. Definitely encourages those that have fun with it to keep doing it.
Flashpoints aka instances are amazingly easy to get get too, are involved and interesting enough that you want to listen to the dialog. The loot drops sometimes are skewed towards a single type of items or for a single class but they are easy enough with a good group that you can run them multiple times and get your chance again.
Overall, i am very satisfied with the game. I have personally reported two bugs and realize that this endevor for bioware is something of a challenge. They put a more polished product out then many games which have Zero Day patches ... thanks Battle Field (glad they dont have flashlights in SWTOR! LOL).
This is a more balanced and better designed game than Galaxies evolved into. The full dialog of every mission, social and personal dynamics, and everything else make it a win. Epic win even!

So, I decided to try the game again after it went F2P...and am I glad that I did! I actually subscribed and am on my second month as a subscriber! Maybe I just needed some time away from the game...or maybe I should have started a Sith Assassin sooner! I am having a blast in the game now! I love what they have done with PvP! Seems a lot less annoying..again, may be that I have just had a change of heart?
Anyway, this is now F2P and you can pretty much do everything the game has to offer without paying for it. Subscribing gets you more character slots, more PvP, access to special mission rewards, etc. If anyone has even considered the game before, they should at least download it and give the F2P option a go!

would be nice, but honestly what good is it? Its not like the phones have much surface area to spread that heat out over to heatsink fins or material, and the heatpipes would have to be nearly paper...
