CounterStrike-Global Operations
CounterStrike, a classic amongst online FPS's is making a return with CS:GO, otherwise known as CounterStrike-Global Operations. That is a return, if you don't consider the thousands upon thousands who still play both the original and Source editions to this day, as well as comepetitvely.
Essentially, it's the same game we've all known and love (hopefully) but with a nice bump in visuals, as well as some changes to the gameplay such as additional weapons, maps, modes, and all of your typical new game goodies along with it.
It ships on August 21st to pretty much all major platforms (Windows, Mac, ps3, 360). This said, if you can play CS:S good chance you can play this, or for a better check, if you can run any of Valve's recent games, you can run it fine.
So the real question is, are you getting it? I know for a fact I am, especially since it's under 20 bucks (I think it was stated to be $14.99)
We used to have quite an amount of players here on TIMO and even had a small TIMO based clan at one point for CS:S. Hoping this game will spark some interest back into CS as a whole 'round these parts. Though it seems like the gaming section has unfortunately been a ghost town as of lateLast edited by SoloCamo; August 7th, 2012 at 10:11 AM.

I just recently played a few rounds of CS:S, felt kinda weird stepping that far "back" graphicswise, but otherwise it was fun. Hopefully CS:GO allows addons like zmod, warcraft, etc...

Been in the beta for about 5 months or so now. The game is honestly great if you enjoy the fast paced action Counterstrike normally is. They have re skinned a bunch of the maps from previous games, so it adds a hint of familiarity to the game IMO.
The new maps are ok, but I've spent most of the time on older maps. (dust, office, inferno, trains)
The new game modes are fun if your a beginner, it helps you get the feel of the guns. But it kind of gets old after a bit.
As far as the mechanics, the guns feel the same as they do in Source IMO. The new grenades add a good twist to some games. Really overall, if you enjoyed CS 1.6 or CS:S, you'll like this game.
If you weren't a fan of previous CS's, then it's best you save $15.

@Nick, this game is still on Source engine, so there will be tons of mods.

Bought it? I'm assuming pre-order? I'm at work and can't check due to our security dept. deaming Steam's page as NSFW!
Same goes for those screenshots, unfortunately.
This said, if you can buy it now, I'm doing so tonight. Haven't gotten a chance at the beta myself, but I've been waiting for this a long time - maybe it will be the spark to actually get me to use my pc for what it was built for... games

Yeah pre-order I mean, I really didn't like the look of source to be honest. Felt way too cartoony when it came out.

Oh ok, cool. Yea, your cpu is definitely quite a bit more powerful than mine, but I don't forsee myself having a problem.
That said, and not to go off topic, but what speed is your 480 at?
I'm running 825 core / 1650 shaders / 4000 memory - just want to give myself a comparison of where I'm at vs what is considered mild for these things since I'm willing to OC moreMain PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

I have a few profiles setup on mine, but I believe mine is right around 830/1675, no idea on memory.
I know my max OC on the core with this card is just shy of 900, 1725 shaders, but after that I get artifacts in some games. (it also takes a hefty voltage boost, which cause more heat, so I generally leave it turned down)Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz
