CryEngine3 Tech Demo
Found this while browsing and figured some would like it. This is the engine that Crytek is building their new F2P shooter on. I'm curious to see how well it performs while still looking good.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Yeah, don't think my 5770 is gonna be able to handle that...

I dont need to worry about that, I didnt really enjoy the first Crysis

Same here ^
I thought of the first one more of a benchmark then a game. I honestly never even complete the single player mainly because I was more interested in the multiplayer, but that turned out to be a huge hacker infested joke.
I haven't bother with any of the Crysis games since, but with them releasing a free to play game on this engine, I'll probably check it out. (nothing to lose)Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Water still looks weird to me in games and its all pretty and stuff, but the real world isnt pretty which kind of snaps me out of the world with these engines.

I haven't played the titles since FarCry way back when. Loved what I've seen from the engines, though. This new engine tech looks on par with the new Unreal engine. Good stuff.
As GZ mentioned, its overkill for the console side. Those poor things are definitely showing their age. I've been playing my PS3 almost exclusively the last year and a half, but the way things are progressing, looks like I may fire the PC back up....after a rebuild....

The new Xbox and Playstation are already in the works. I believe the new Xbox will hit the markets first though. They are supposed to be packing AMD trinity setups from my understanding.
I know AMD also got the contract for the new Playstation, but I haven't really kept up with specs on it.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

My baseless hunch is we will not see an APU on the PS4. For one, Sony already put a ton of money into designing Cell and putting together developer tools. Sure, they could just throw that all away and I haven't been following the development at all. But an APU doesn't sound to me like something Sony would do. They're not high-end enough.

Nope, pretty sure they are throwing away the Cell processor.
More reading here: PS4 release date, news and rumours | News | TechRadarPS4 likely to pack AMD CPU and graphics power
The same source who revealed the PlayStation Orbis name to Kotaku also mentioned that the PS4 is currently penciled in as packing an AMD x64 CPU and 28nm AMD Southern Islands graphics power.
The source doesn't go into any detail about what revision of AMD CPU hardware it's going to be using, but it could be the forthcoming Piledriver revision of the weak Bulldozer architecture from the AMD FX-8150 CPU.
Meanwhile, IGN reports that the PS4 will be powered specifically by the AMD Radeon HD 7670 chip and the A8-3850 APU.
(I'll stay on topic from here on out.)
EDIT:
And I guess while we're offtopic, I also know AMD got the contact for Nintendo's newest console. So it seems AMD is going to be powering all the next gen consoles.

Just when I thought my overclocked 480 would be enough for a bit... this comes out. Ah well. Very impressive, now what kind of SLI setup were they running for the thing

Couldn't have been that good, SLI setup, could detect a tad bit of lag slow down in some parts of the vid... well, maybe it was top end 3 Way or Quad SLI, if thats the case, shudder to think what it would need for that detail at 1080p and get a good 40-60fps.

I agree. I would bet they are gonna use a Piledriver setup. That makes the most sense to me. But I would not put it past Sony to go with an AMD setup. It saves them massive amounts of R&D cost, as well as time.
I remember when PS3 and Xbox came out, it was a price war. Microsoft was able to drop the price of their console quicker because they used existing architecture, meanwhile Sony could not because they had to cover the costs of R&D with the Cell architecture. That's one of the reasons why Xbox usually beat out PS3's in sales.
I don't think Sony would do that again. I think they would rather cut costs here, and put that money more towards PSN, upgrades, etc. (I would also hope security is high on that last given the past)
I guess we'll wait and see. As you said, there is no telling with Sony.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

I wouldn't necessarily say the Radeon HD 7600 Series GPU would be outdated, but it certainly would be underpowered by the time the console was released to market.

That's a better word choice, yes.
Current consoles have been around 6/7 years and Sony has said the PS3 has a ten year shelf life (that probably includes being sold as second tier, I'm guessing), so I'd expect them to plan for a decade with the next console. A 7600 is going to look very underpowered in ten years.

stuffing something like a 7800 series would make much more sense, but even then, 10 years down the road, that won't be much. So its hard to say exactly what they will be tossing into the system at this point.

This isn't going to be out until '14. Ain't no way Sony is going to underpower this thing.
