Hello fellow Techimoians,

Ok, I need your thoughts and opinons. I work for a small ISP. As we were brainstorming on how we can give a boost to our profit margin, my manager came up with the idea of setting up a couple of game servers so that we could drag some gamers off of their ISP and onto ours.
What I need to find out are: "What are the top 3 to 5 online games out on the market right now?" "What online games look like they would stick around for awhile?" "How is online gaming over a v92 dial up connection?"

I admin'd a counter-sever a couple of years ago, but quite a bit has changed now. What I really need to know now is "What would be the, most reasonable, bare minimum requirements that an online gamer would need?" I'm referring to Processor, Video Card, etc... Keep in mind that I will need opinions from people that have used dial-up, DSL, and Wireless.

Well All we have is Dialup, but can get ISDN . Soon we will have cable service availible to the masses, I hope. That's what they keep saying anyway.
All we play online is like card games and such, It takes a good long while sometimes to load the applets, but gameplay isn't bad once your actually in the game.

Well, I'm a HardCore gammer, and I can give you an over-view of what WE like, I guess...

Well, The internet will have to be 56K++ regaudless of what game(Maybe StarCraft, and simaler RPSes)
-The Machines rite now we need is about 650MHZ(this is the min for most game rite now...)
-256RAM+, if you're a gammer, you need this, NEED...
-For RPG's MMORPG, and shooters, anything new rite now, we need a 32mb video card to be able to see what you're doing, cuz anything lower you'll have BAD game-play...
-20gb+ HD at bare MIN...++
-32X+ CD-ROM
For like the internet for shooter games(Counter-Strike), as you prolly know, you need a HIGH-SPEED ISDN, or cable++
And you said you've ADMINed a CS server, why don't you get about 3high-end XP1900 512ram CABLE/T1++ and rent out some (dedicated) servers for CS... that will work...

Well, I'm on 56k, and America's Army suffers almost little lag, depending on the map... I think the video card also has to effect lag or not since I'm in the red area when I see my FPS oh wells, lots of fun anyway

im also a hardcore gamer. I use adsl for great pings. top 3 to 5 games online right now???


I would say Neverwinter Nights, Warcraft III, & Tactical-Ops: Assualt on Terror are in the top five somewhere.

I use an Athlon XP2100+ CPU on a Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum mother board with 912MB Corsair DDR PC2100 RAM. I use a GeForce3 64MB video card with the Game TheatreXP sound card under Windows XP PRO. I figure since this is where I spend most of my free time... I should splurge and enjoy it to its fullest.
