Anyone have morrowind combat tips?
Hey, just curious if anyone has some tips for effective combat in morrowind. I'm a newbie to RPG's so i pretty much suck at morrowind at the moment hehe. I find it difficult to use weapons & havent event tried to use magic yet.

Dont know about weapons training but heres something Im doing to get my hand to hand and no armor values up. First you have to be born under the sign of the tower to use the tower key ability then go to the two huts just before the outside of town. Use the ability to unlock the hut on the left which no one lives in (try to make sure the guards dont see you) theres a bed in there you can now use. Now unequip any armour or weapons and head over to the other hut and start your own Fight Club by punching the commoner in there at first he will beat you unconscious (my hand to hand combat is my lowest skill) run for the door when your low on life and go to the other hut and rest until healed. Just keep repeating until you can beat him to death and claim his hut or keep increasing your skills. Also go use the key ability at the census warehouse for a free suit of imperial armor and a sword!!

In a tight fix try this;
1. 'Shift ~'
Opens Cheat box.
2. Type 'player->tgm' hit enter
Toggles God Mode
3. 'Shift~'
Closes Cheat box.
Works for those tight spots. You can still get killed but it ain't easy.
Also spells and potions last until you turn god mode off.
I use it mainly w/ levate to travel about easier,can't run but you can float over mountians and water,also gives ability to breath underwater.
For skills;
Set your game options to 'use best attack always' or something like that. Then just run around
killing easy things.
Note: some skills will advance faster then others depending on your class. It dosen't hurt to pay for training either but can get expensive.

I like to keep a glass Jinkblade handy just incase i get myself into more than I bargained for. they usually paralyze for 10 seconds. just hit two or three of the attackers with it and then get to where you have a better chance of winning the fight. I never use cheats. Once you use a cheat, your tempted to use it again. use the attack that best suits your weapon also. If you have a piercing weapon such as a spear, use the the pierce attack, same for slash & chop.

Well i don't cheat when i'm playing, if i get bored i might mess around with cheats but never save or use them in a proper game.
I think its just gonna be a matter of me messing around & practicing & trying different things.

Errrr... there's no need for a god mode in Morrowind, nomaxim. If you can't handle your opponents, you're probably going somewhere you shouldn't be going to (like a Daedric shrine at level 5).
Combat strategy depends on what kind of character you have.
Basically, as a warrior type, you just have to get close, hit your opponent and dodge his attack before hitting him again. Repeat until opponent is dead. As a marksman, you should find a place your opponent can't get, so you can kill him without getting hit. As a mage you can also attack from a distance, I think mage is the easiest class to play. A thief/assasin can sneak up to an enemy and kill him with one stab in the back.
I would recommend to turn on "use best attack only," to make sure you always do as much damage as possible. Don't forget you also have to hold down the attack button for about a second to do the maximum damage your weapon can do.

I am not sure about combat tips but here is a tip or two
1) There is a clothing merchant in Balmora, I believe he is next door to a alchemist. Steal something small from him so that he attacks you then when he does, kill him. After that go find a guard and pay your fine. Now go back to the clothing store and it is now your home. Grab all the clothes and sell them for quick cash. Store collected items on the shelves and best of all, you have a place to sleep. From all that I have read, this character has no future place in the game.
2) Go to Caldera and find a merchant named Creeper. He resides upstairs in Ghorak Manor. Wen you talk to him, the only option you have is barter. He buys all weapons at listed value and has 5000 cash. He replenishes his cash every 24 hours. I sold a hammer to him for 5000 and it gave me alot of cash to buy stuff.

Only 5000 cash on him.
Let me know if you find one w/ about 30,000. I've got all this Ebony equip. to sell off.
Most of it's priced over 16,000.
Even the people that hate me can't afford to buy it off of me!Last edited by nomaxim; August 9th, 2002 at 10:45 AM.

Go to the link I gave above.
It contains lots of info inc. Enchanting,Alchemy, quest walkthoughs, & detailed maps.(and editor tips) Its cheapper then buying the offical walkthough.( around 20USD)
For combat I just close on them and hack away.
Ranged weapons & spells are alittle tricky, but in game opitions turn the crosshair on! This will put a small target crosshair in the middle of the screen. Helps alot to aim that bow or greater fireball.
P.S. Save often just like any other game. The early quests are pretty easy.Last edited by nomaxim; August 11th, 2002 at 07:45 AM.

I sold Creepers in Caldera a Glass helm for 20,000 and got it all.
He replentishes his bank to 5,000 dollars every 24 hours. the trick is to build your bank up to 20 or 30 thousand by selling him 5000 dollars worth at a time. Then once you get a nice nest egg built up, you buy 20,000 dollars worth of stuff back from him at face value which will temporarily increase his bank by that amount. Then you sell him the expensive item and you are rich. You can then buy back any items you sold him that you wanted to keep.
He sells and buys for the same price and always keeps the inventory of what you sell him...
