um, guys, it's a ALPHA...if it runs slow, it's because it's EXTREMELY early, and playing it now is techincally illegal(not that I personally care). Anyway, dont worry about performance, they have to make it run on average systems to sell the game.

remember how early versions of UT2003 ran slow, imo it would be worth just waiting until its officailly released

I saw it run on a Tbird 1.333 w/ GF3 and 512MB of RAM. It was nearly unplayable it was so slow. It would be fine when you're running around but once an enemy got on the screen it was about 3fps or less. But like everyone else has said- it's so early that you have to expect that.
One cool feature was that if you press F1 you can add a light pointing where you were looking. Pressing F2 would remove lights. I was totally amazed by the lighting engine. Wow.

hmmm, this alpha version got my system on his knees. Max framerate aroud 15, running around about 8, with enemies 1-2 ... on a athlon T-bird 1.2Ghz, 256 sdr sdram and a geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb
but it's very nice

I guess i have to make myself clearer. and i thought it was pretty understable. I WILL NOT TELL YOU HOW TO GET IT or send it to you. do not message me, aim, icq or pm on how to get it. if you have questions ask away i don't care. just don't bother me with getting it
(mike not pointed towards you again

i have a p4 2.5, 512 pc1006 Rambus, and a radeon 9700 and i get a pretty constant 30fps but it drops low when a lot of action goes on... i.e. gun fire or an imp in your face. has anyone gotten any better???

Here's some tips to get Doom III alpha running all little better (i.e. +2 FPS). This is for all you who have the leaked alpha.
1. Run the game in full screen by pressing alt+enter at the main screen. This lightens the load for DirectX because it doesn't have to draw everything inside a tiny window.
2. Type "exec runact.cfg" at the console and wait for a long time.
3. Load a map, any map.
4. Type "exec fredo.cfg" at the console to load some debugging commands and bindings.
5. Type the end key (it's right underneath the home key) and wait some more. This should cycle between LowQuality, MediumQuality, and HighQuality. Unfortunately LowQuality doesn't work yet, but MediumQuality does and it's a little easier on our systems than HighQuality.
6. Now bind all your movement keys at the console and have fun.
