    got this from www.overclockers.com

    "This is the E3 demo. Most people think you have to run the "exec runact.cfg" command for it to run. They are wrong. All you have to do is load the maps from the console. If you do that, the game will run fine. If you run "exec runact," the game will load EVRYTHING into RAM (you need about 1 GB) it will run like sh*t if you do that (because you dont have the RAM)

    "I get around 30 FPS at 800x600 on a Ti4200 P4 2.6 GHz. It looks amazing; the final game will definitely look better."

    haha I saw them before they were removed.. looked very nice.. I thinI even have them in temp file.. I on the other hand can.. and will pass them around =)

    I haven't looked for it may not.. if they put out a demo.. I would see no reason to look for a alpha.. I just want to see the game in action on my setup

    Hmm, finding anything is easy if you really want it. I spent half and hour looking around and found it. The secret to finding the Doom 3 alpha is;

    Seek ye out thine IRC networks that allow ye warez, and the alpha shalt be close by.

    If downloaded it there should be a text file telling you how to load it up

    mmm doom 3, what a game.

    the reason the demo runs so slow is because the models are all still full quality. ie. 60,000 polygons (or some other rediculous figure), and the engine, maps, etc. will only be optimised for speed once the game s more or less complete. if it is optimised early it can make changing something a right pain in the ass.

    who in their right mind would download a demo of such a high quality game just to run it on a 450MHz machine anyway?

    the machines it is being designed on, and was used for the demo at E3 probably had 4 pentium 4 processors and 2GB of RAM.

    as for loading the entire game - textures, maps, models etc. - into memory, this would have been done at E3 to make up for the lost speed due to the insane polygon count. in the finsihed version the models will be MUCH lower res., but still look great.

    i cant believe anyone would have any doubts as to how good it will be. this is id, the people who brought you doom, wolfenstein, Quake, Q2, Q3Arena, ... Doom3 will blow everything else away, cause hours of lost time, brown pants, among other things;P dont judge a game by an alpha version.

    and all you people who say "yea, doom 3, im gonna wait for the PS2 / XBox release cos it'll be much better". at you i laugh, along with the rest of the gaming community. this WILL NOT HAPPEN. (i pray anyway). every other PC - Console port has totally spoilt the game - DC Q3, Saturn Duke Nukem, Saturn Q1, N64 Q2, SNES Doom. Buy a PC stupid n00bs. apart from anything else, it wont be able to handle it (altho in the past this hasnt stopped them, they just deleted half the textures and maps, and made everything else deleted too. this should be the one game that is PC only release.

    and if you want to "see doom 3 in action" there is a demo video that you can easily find - its about 80MB - i got it off fileplanet i think - just have a google search - a great video with interviews the John Cormack and all the other id people. Very interesting with some AMAZING demos of the lighting effects the game engine can produce.

    shut up ground zero u *deleted*, stop acting like ur a VIP just cause u have access and have played the doom 3 alpha. You aren't special - everyone can find it on Direct Connect, E-Donkey, or Quakenet on IRC. And if you didn't want people asking you where you got it from, why did you post this thing in the first place? What's that? to brag? oh yea, that seems logical. well, just to recap, you are a *deleted*, and your not gonna get any more attention, so suck a fat one u *deleted*loser.

    You have been banned because of strong verbal attacks on another member and flagrant use of foul language.

    D_Mason, please refrain from flaming others, also be sure to read the forum NetEtiquette !! If you like to call names, please don't ever come back. We can do without that kind of nonsence.

    Skud420, the web may be packed full of crap like that, but TechIMO is a place that is geared towards an audience of all ages. I'm sure you would agree it would be wrong for Disney to have language like that on its website, well disney is geared towards an audience of all ages too, so why should TechIMO be any different?
