GTA3 PC controls question

I asked a question in another thread and a user "jayman" suggested I start a new thread and explain my question better. so....
All my many games have a keyboard control to save my game at a point so that I don't have to start over at a later time at the very beginning but where i left off. Near the beginning of the game I am asked to save my game at this point if I desire. HOW DO I DO THIS?
So.....what key do I use to save my game at any desirable point so that I can continue at this said point of the game ??
I found the "pause game" key [alt] only by accidental searching
and, also, the itty bitty 20 page phamplet that comes with the game has 2 pages devoted to default controls for ON FOOT & IN CAR. Aren't there more default controls somewhere beside just these in the phamplet?
To further explain, my Nightfire game uses F5 to quick save a game. NOLF3 uses F6. Normandy uses F2. What key in GTA3 do I use for a quick save?

Ahh ok, now i understand what you were asking in the other thread.

In this game there is no "save" key, you have to go to your garage & there will be a door near it, walk in there and you can save the game, if you have a car you can park it inside the garage and it will be in there when you load.

The garage on the 1st island is where you take 8-ball in the very beginning of the game.

edit: your best bet for seeing all the controls is in the games option menu's.

Jayman is right, you can't just save anywhere in the game. you have to find several different garages placed in key locations

How do I get in that door? I've been tryin using the enter key for enter/exit but no deal. I park in the garage but the game doesn't save. This is weird. There's little blue circles floatin around with yellow i's inside the circles...what these for....whatta I do with them? like I asked days ago, WHAT KEYBOARD KEYS DO I USE? to get in the door or after I park the car??????
You said "walk in there and you can save the game"...HOW DO I SAVE THE GAME? if I could walk in there, I can't yet.

The door should just be open and you can just walk in. You can only save outside of a mission, though, so maybe you have to complete it before you can save the game? If there are any green or purple dots on your radar, you are still doing a mission.

Make sure you are at an actual save location (Your Hideout). The Hideout location is on your map (It looks like a small house). All the save areas have a garage next to them to save your car also, but other than that, there are no keys you need to push to get into the door where you save your game. You should be able to just walk right in.

My question still remains, what do I do after I just walk in?
I've been just walking in or just drivin in for a week. Nuttin happens afterI just walk in or just drive in. I apologize for bein ' sarcastic BUT is somethin supposed to happen automatically?
Well, nothin happens automatically. So I figure I have to make it happen...by hittin a key BUT???????????
Hey, I'm in level/mission 7 of Nightfire so I'm not stupid. Dumb maybe, but not stupid.
I need a break from 007 but gettin no break with GTA3.

When you walk through the door it should open a screen which you can safe your game at.

Hmm. Well I thought about this a little more and it occurred to me that there was a save game issue, but I think it was a load save game issue. This is one of the things that the 1.1 patch was supposed to fix. If you are not patched up to 1.1 you should get it and give it a try.

There is no place that you can "just drive in" to save a game. You have to get out of the car and walk into the door that is right next to the garage at the save location. Once you "walk in" that door, you should get a save screen. Pick a save slot from the list and save the game. If this does not work, your game is messed up or you are not walking in the correct door.

No, the game is not a copy. It's a full version $50.00 edition.
At the beginning of the game there is a message that says, "YOU CAN SAVE YOUR GAME HERE" with an open door but it disappears immediately.
I'll download the patch and see what happens. Thanx!!!!!

remember that you have to finish first any missions you got before saving, If you are in the middle of one you cant save the garage door wont open.

When you pass or fail the mission a House icon will appear in your map that the place where you can save your game.
